If you have an upcoming surgery, what you do before matters more than you think.

The goal?
Set up your home and your support system so you can focus on healing… not scrambling.

Here’s what we recommend getting in place ahead of time 👇

🏡 Your space:
✔️ Easy access to essentials (no excessive bending or reaching)
✔️ Comfortable place to rest with pillows for support
✔️ Loose, easy-to-change clothing

🛒 Your supplies:
✔️ Pads or protective underwear if needed
✔️ Stool softeners to avoid straining
✔️ Ice packs/heating pad for comfort
✔️ Simple, easy-to-prepare meals + snacks
✔️ Water bottle to stay hydrated

🤝 Your support team:
✔️ Someone to help with meals, kids, pets, or errands
✔️ A plan for rides (especially early on)
✔️ Clear expectations so you’re not doing too much too soon

A little preparation now can make your recovery smoother, less stressful, and way more comfortable. We love helping our patients prep for surgery. Prostate, prolapse, or hysterectomy are some of the most common ones.

If you want a step-by-step plan for how to prepare your body and your home for surgery, we walk you through all of it 👇

If you’re planning for prostate surgery, there’s something most men aren’t told…

You can (and should) prepare your pelvic floor before surgery.

Here’s why that matters 👇

Seeing a pelvic physical therapist ahead of time helps you:
✔️ Learn how to properly activate and relax your pelvic floor (not just guess at Kegels)
✔️ Build strength and coordination before your body is under stress
✔️ Understand how to use your breath and core to reduce leakage after surgery
✔️ Know exactly what to expect in those first few weeks of recovery
✔️ Walk into surgery feeling prepared—not uncertain

Men who do “prehab” often feel more in control and more confident during recovery.

Because you’re not starting from scratch…
you’re starting with a plan.

If you want to set yourself up for a smoother recovery, this is for you 👇

One of the most important things you can do after prostate surgery… is start moving early.

Not aggressively. Not jumping back into workouts.
But intentional, guided movement that supports your recovery 👇

Here’s why it matters:

👉 Promotes circulation and healing
👉 Helps reduce stiffness and discomfort
👉 Supports bowel and bladder function
👉 Reconnects your core and pelvic floor
👉 Builds confidence in your body again

The key is knowing what kind of movement is helpful—and what to avoid in those early weeks.

Too little movement can slow recovery…
but too much (or the wrong kind) can increase symptoms like leakage or pain.

That’s where having a plan makes all the difference.

If you want to know exactly how to move safely and confidently after surgery, we’ve got you covered 👇

Bladder leakage after prostate surgery is common… but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it.

A lot of men are told, “just give it time.”
But without the right guidance, leakage can linger longer than it needs to—and feel incredibly frustrating in the process.

Here’s what most people aren’t told 👇

👉 Leakage is often related to how well your pelvic floor, core, and breathing are working together
👉 Doing endless Kegels (or doing them incorrectly) can actually slow progress
👉 There are specific strategies that can help you regain control faster

The good news?
With the right plan, most men can significantly improve—and in many cases, fully resolve—leakage over time.

You just need to know what to do.

If you want a clear roadmap for preventing and improving leakage after surgery, this is for you 👇

💡 Can a Prolapse Be “Pushed Back Up”?

If you’ve noticed a vaginal bulge or pressure, you may have wondered: “Can I just push it back in?” The answer is… yes, temporarily—but it’s not a permanent fix.

Pelvic organ prolapse isn’t just about weakness—it’s about pressure management and coordination. That’s where pelvic floor physical therapy (PT) can help.

In our latest blog, we cover:
✔ Why pushing it back in doesn’t repair the prolapse
✔ How pelvic floor PT improves strength, timing, and function
✔ Tips for managing daily activities, exercise, and comfort
✔ How pessaries can support therapy when needed

You don’t have to live with prolapse symptoms or jump straight to surgery. Learn how PT can help you regain confidence, reduce pressure, and move with ease.

If you’re having prostate surgery, when you start thinking about your pelvic floor matters more than you think.

Here’s why 👇

Seeing a pelvic physical therapist before surgery helps you:
✔️ Learn how to properly activate and relax your pelvic floor (not just random Kegels)
✔️ Build strength and coordination ahead of time
✔️ Understand how to use your breath and core to prevent leakage
✔️ Walk into surgery with a clear game plan

And after surgery, pelvic PT helps you:
✔️ Reduce urinary leakage and regain bladder control faster
✔️ Improve urgency and frequency
✔️ Safely return to lifting, exercise, and daily activities
✔️ Address scar tissue, tension, and pelvic pain
✔️ Support sexual health and confidence

Bottom line:
Preparation + guided recovery = better outcomes.

Most men are sent home after prostate surgery with one instruction:
“Do your Kegels.”

But here’s the problem…
That’s only a small piece of the puzzle.

Pelvic physical therapy goes WAY beyond Kegels—and it can make a huge difference in how you recover after a prostatectomy 👇

✔️ Retrain your pelvic floor muscles for better bladder control
✔️ Teach you how to properly coordinate your core and breath (this is key for preventing leakage)
✔️ Help you reduce urgency and frequency so you’re not constantly searching for a bathroom
✔️ Guide you safely back to exercise, lifting, and daily activities
✔️ Address scar tissue, tension, and pelvic pain
✔️ Support recovery of sexual function and confidence

This is about giving your body a clear roadmap for healing—so you’re not left guessing or struggling longer than you need to.

And the best part?
The earlier you start (even before surgery), the better your outcomes tend to be.

👉 Follow along and check back every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as we break down exactly how to prepare and recover after prostate surgery.
