Feeling like you can never fully empty your bladder? đźš˝

It may not just be your bladder… it could be your pelvic floor muscles.

Your pelvic floor needs to relax in order for urine to flow out efficiently. If those muscles stay tight, tense, or overactive, it can feel like you still have urine left behind, cause hesitancy, or have you running back to the bathroom again shortly after you just went.

The good news? Pelvic physical therapy can help improve pelvic floor muscle coordination and bladder emptying. Save & share with someone who needs to hear this.

IBS management is rarely a one-person job. 👏

Because IBS doesn’t just affect the gut. It can involve the digestive system, nervous system, stress response, pelvic floor muscles, breathing patterns, food triggers, sleep, movement, and more.

That’s why the best IBS care often takes a TEAM approach. Depending on your symptoms, your support team may include: • Gastroenterologist. • Pelvic floor physical therapist. • Dietitian/nutritionist. • Mental health provider. • Primary care physician

At pelvic PT, we commonly help people with the “musculoskeletal” side of IBS symptoms: ✔️ Pelvic floor tension. ✔️ Constipation. ✔️ Difficulty emptying bowels. ✔️ Abdominal pain. ✔️ Pressure management. ✔️ Breathing coordination. ✔️ Nervous system downtraining

You deserve care that looks at the whole picture — not just one piece of the puzzle.

Save & share with someone navigating IBS symptoms who may need more support than they’ve been offered so far. 💛

Ever notice your ribs “popping out” when you stand or work out? 👀

That’s called rib flare—and it’s not just a posture issue.
It can affect how your:
đź’¨ Diaphragm
đź’Ş Core
⬇️ Pelvic floor
…all work together.

When this system isn’t coordinated, it can lead to:
⚠️ Pelvic pressure
⚠️ Leakage
⚠️ Low back pain
⚠️ Core weakness

The good news? This is something we can fix 🙌

In our latest blog, we break down what rib flare is, why it matters, and how pelvic PT helps you move and feel better.

Did you know your pelvic floor muscles can play a BIG role in IBS symptoms? đź‘€

Your pelvic floor muscles help coordinate bowel movements. If these muscles are too tight, weak, poorly coordinated, or unable to relax appropriately, it can contribute to symptoms like: Constipation. Straining with bowel movements. Incomplete emptying. Bloating. Abdominal discomfort. Urgency

For some people with IBS, the issue isn’t just the intestines themselves… it’s also HOW the muscles around the bowel are functioning.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help improve: ✔️ Pelvic floor muscle coordination. ✔️ Relaxation of overactive muscles. ✔️ Breathing and pressure management. ✔️ Bowel mechanics and positioning. ✔️ Abdominal wall mobility and tension

And when those systems work together better, bowel symptoms often improve too. 🙌

If you’ve tried changing foods, supplements, or medications but still struggle with bowel symptoms, it may be worth looking at the pelvic floor piece of the puzzle.

Save & share with someone dealing with IBS symptoms who may not realize pelvic PT can help. đź’›

IBS is often talked about like it’s just a gut issue… but for many people, there’s more going on than digestion alone. 👀

Your abdominal muscles, diaphragm, pelvic floor muscles, connective tissue (fascia), and nervous system all work together with your bowel function. When there’s too much tension, guarding, or poor coordination in these areas, it can contribute to symptoms like:• Bloating• Constipation• Difficulty emptying bowels• Abdominal pain• Pelvic pain• Feeling “tight” through the stomach or pelvis

This is one reason why some people continue struggling with symptoms even after changing their diet or trying medications.

At pelvic PT, we look beyond the gut itself and assess the muscles, breathing patterns, pressure management, mobility, and tension throughout the abdomen and pelvis that may be contributing to symptoms.

Because IBS is rarely just about the intestines.

Save & share with someone who’s been told “everything looks normal” but still doesn’t feel normal. 💛

Ever feel like you have to PUSH to p*e… but your bladder still doesn’t feel empty? 🚽

One way I explain this to patients is to imagine trying to squeeze toothpaste out of a tube… while the lid is still on. 🪥

Your bladder muscle may be squeezing and working hard to empty……but if your pelvic floor muscles aren’t fully relaxing, urine can have a hard time flowing out efficiently.

This can lead to symptoms like: • Feeling like you still have urine left. • Straining or pushing to p*e. • Slow urine stream. • Starting and stopping while p*eing. • Frequent trips to the bathroom

A lot of people assume bladder emptying issues automatically mean “weak muscles,” but sometimes the issue is actually too much tension or poor coordination in the pelvic floor.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help teach your body how to better relax, coordinate breathing and pelvic floor movement, and improve bladder emptying mechanics. 👏

Save this reel for later and share it with someone who is always saying, “I just p*ed… why do I still feel like I have to go again?”
