Check out the link below to see pictures of WashU Nephrology celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, one of the most significant religious festivals for Hindus.

It was a joyful gathering filled with Indian sweets, savory snacks, and Masala chai. The event featured hands-on activities, including Paint the Diya (decorating clay lamps to take home), henna tattoos, and Rangoli drawing – an age-old art form that symbolizes joy and good fortune.

Thanks to Hemalatha Sundaramoorthi, PhD, a Senior Scientist in the Humphreys Lab, who organized the celebration, and to Meei-Hua Lin, PhD, a Senior Scientist in the Jeffrey Miner Laboratory for the pictures of the celebration.

So proud to celebrate our Chief, Dr. Benjamin Humphreys, on his appointment to the American Society of Nephrology Executive Council. Dr. Humphreys will help guide strategic decisions, advocacy, and scientific programming that shape the future of nephrology at a national level.

Appointment as Executive Councilor places Humphreys on the presidential track for the American Society of Nephrology. He is slated to serve as ASN President in 2028.

Thrilled to share that transplant nephrologist Anuja Java, MD, has received a Clinical and Translational Science Award (U54) for her leading role in the newly funded Thrombotic Microangiopathies (TMAs) Consortium of the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network (RDCRN).

The initiative, known as the IMPACT Study, will work to advance diagnosis and treatment of TMAs, rare but serious conditions involving blood clotting in small vessels, often leading to organ damage. Read more:

Great news for women's health research!

Anuja Java, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine and transplant nephrologist at WashU Nephrology, has been awarded a prestigious research grant from the Foundation for Women’s Health. Her project, one of the foundation’s inaugural $1 million awards, investigates the role of genetic drivers of - work that could lead to early diagnosis and targeted therapies.

“This grant is a tremendous opportunity to investigate the role of the complement system in preeclampsia, a condition that threatens the lives of so many women and infants," says Dr. Java, an esteemed research scientist. "I am hopeful our work will lay the foundation for earlier diagnosis and new therapies that can save lives. I am very grateful for the support from FWH!”
