Why Gardening Can Lead to Lower Back Pain?

Summer gardening is a great way to get outside, move your body, and enjoy something peaceful—but it can also lead to surprising strain on your lower back.

Here’s why:

Bending over for long periods (even in short bursts) compresses the spine and tires out postural muscles.

Twisting or lifting heavy bags of soil, pots, or tools without engaging your core can irritate the lower back.

Repetitive motions like weeding, digging, or raking can overwork small stabilizing muscles.

🌱 A few tips to prevent discomfort:

Use a stool or kneeling pad to reduce bending

Take breaks every 20–30 minutes to stretch upright

Shift positions often—don’t stay twisted or leaning to one side too long

End your gardening session with a few gentle back and hip stretches
