In honor of Saint Francis de Sales Day, Saint Francis Hospital held a special mass in the hospital chapel led by Bishop Juan Miguel Betancourt.

Saint Francis de Sales, who serves as the patron saint for the hospital as well as for writers, journalists, and the deaf, was also the patron saint for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chambery, France. Mother Ann Valencia and a group of Sisters of St. Joseph founded Saint Francis Hospital in 1897.

Legend has it that the Archdiocese of Hartford intended for the hospital to be named for Saint Francis of Assisi, but due to Mother Valencia’s origins in Savoy, France, she assumed the namesake to be Saint Francis de Sales. After Mother Valencia purchased a painting of the “wrong” Saint Francis, Bishop Tierney conceded and let Saint Francis de Sales remain the hospital’s patron.

Following mass, Sister Barbara Mullen spoke about the history and Mission of Saint Francis Hospital.

“As men age, one of the natural processes is the prostate can grow, compressing the tube that we p*e through like an elephant stepping on a garden hose,” D’Amato said. “Removing the tissue in the middle is like pulling the cork out of a wine bottle: you’re left with a nice big tube for the urine to pass through.”

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or an enlarged prostate, can change the lives of most men as they age. In the past, there have been medical treatments, but now there is a ne…

We were proud to be part of the Springfield Thunderbirds’ fifth annual Stroke Awareness Night. Members of our Regional Stroke and Rehabilitation Programs connected with fans throughout the evening to share education on stroke warning signs, how to reduce stroke risk, BE FAST, and the importance of calling 9-1-1 at the first signs of stroke.

Our team reached community members and helped make the night extra special for stroke survivors and their families, who participated in a pregame High-Five Tunnel with the players. Fans also tested their stroke knowledge for a chance to win an autographed Thunderbirds jersey.
