Stafford Springs Soccer Club The Stafford Springs Soccer Club (SSSC) is a volunteer organization dedicated to youth soccer in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

The Stafford Springs Soccer Club, or SSSC, is a local organization dedicated to providing a safe environment for the youth of our town to participate in the sport of soccer. The club is affiliated with the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) in the Northeast District in the state of Connecticut, and part of US Youth Soccer (the national youth soccer organizing body). The club operates an active youth program year round, with fall season participation for ages 4-13 years old for approximately 350 youth and 75 adult volunteers. Additionally, winter, spring and summer programs include high school aged youth for annual participation rates exceeding 400 kids. The club was first formed in 1979 initially with an adult team and operated its first youth team in the Under 14 Boys travel division in the NE district in 1980. The club grew to a half dozen travel teams in the 10-14 year old range for subsequent seasons attracting nearly 80 kids through the early 1980's each Fall. The club blossomed in the late 1980's by initiating younger programs participating in town regularly involving 350-400 kids annually starting in the early 1990's through today. The first Parent's Association was organized by Ken Blanchard, and with assistance from Sue Fisher, Lorraine Holland and Bruce Posocco, helped with much of the administrative burden. Since our inception, we estimate to have seen over 2,000 kids come through the club many of which enjoyed soccer for over 8 years from entry until high school, and others longer as they compete in high school and college. We have stopped counting the second generation soccer players. We are certainly proud of the girls that brought us a state high school soccer championship and three state indoor tournament championships, most of which grew up in the soccer club. We are ever so proud of our local hero, Jeff Braun, who so much loved playing soccer. The club recognizes a significant volunteer contribution annually with its Service Award. The running list of service award recipients is shown below. Without the help of many dedicated volunteers, the programs offered would be unable to operate. Further, we are forever grateful to the generosity and enthusiasm of George Koulisis from the Stafford House of Pizza for his support in getting the early programs going. The club is strictly a non-profit organization dedicated to soccer, using fees and fund raising to support the activities of the program. The club is further supported by the Town of Stafford with an annual stipend for durable equipment, and with outstanding care and preparation of the fields used at the Stafford High School and Stafford Middle School complex. The club was the first in our local district to host a jamboree, organizing the preseason tournament for 8 years in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The club also twice served as host for what has become an annual district fun day tournament for all Under 10 teams, attracting over 75 teams each November. This is certainly not something that would be possible without our great facilities.

Lots of "new" going on at SSSC..

Fund Raising Initiatives Upcoming

We are ramping up fund-raising efforts. Becky Murphy will be reaching out for your help. We have two major goals. One is to replace the funds from the Town of Stafford stipend that was removed from the budget for this current fiscal year. This had helped fund equipment needs for all programs. Two is to absorb the cost of travel uniforms. This is a big ask but we are confident this initiative can be successful.

New Travel Uniform kit policy

The travel uniform policy is changing. Rather than ask each family to order and pay for their personal travel uniform online, the club has arranged to procure full kits of jersey, shorts and socks. This will require the new fund-raising initiatives we are kicking off to be successful. But starting immediately, families do NOT need to purchase their travel uniforms any longer.

New FanWear and Apparel Store

With the support of Kara Blais, the club has opened its new FanWear store. Kara has just started to publicize it on social media. A portion of sales helps the club raise some funds. There is some good swag on there. There is a new link on the club website for easy access. Check it out.

New CSF Scholarship Fund

Thanks to the generosity of Ron Campo, you can direct any donations you make to the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Stafford Springs in the name of the Stafford Springs Soccer Club to help fund a college scholarship for a Stafford High School senior. Applicants should mention any previous participation or future aspirations with soccer when they apply for their scholarship.

Winter Soccer Gym Times

Indoor Soccer play starts Sunday January 5, 2025. Start times by age levels are shown below. Play will be every Sunday thru April 13. Still time to register online at https://clubs.bluesombrero.com/staffordsprings When registering, choose the age group that matches your age. All play will be age appropriate and we will split the gym in half to accommodate if necessary.

Gym Times:

4-7-year-olds at 12:30-1:30pm
8–10-year-olds at 1:30-2:30pm
13-14-year-olds & High School Girls at 2:30-3:30pm

The schedule will be adjusted in future weeks depending on attendance patterns.

Winter Indoor Soccer Registration

Registration is open for the Winter 2025 Indoor Soccer season.

The Winter Indoor season is set to start IN TEN DAYS. Soccer will be played in the Stafford High School gym on Sunday afternoons from January 5 through April 13. Registration is open through the portal and costs $30 per player for the season. We're offering gym time for all age groups, provided there is sufficient interest expressed by December 31. The gym schedule will be announced on January 1, contingent on the number of signups. The gameplay will be casual, offering plenty of exercise and ball touches. Volunteers are needed to supervise the play on Sunday afternoons, no soccer experience needed.

LAST CALL for soccer players! Rec soccer for ages 3-7 gets started after Labor Day. Registration fee is $35 per player, up to 2 players maximum fee per family.

An organizing meeting for volunteers will be held on Thursday August 29 starting at 7:30pm at the Staffordville School Library media room.

Under 8 Intramurals for 6-7 year olds play Tuesday, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at SMS - first day is Sept 3 at 5:30pm. Under 6 Minikickers for 4-5 year olds play Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings at SHS - first day is Sept 4 at 6:00pm. 3-year-old Microkickers play Saturday mornings aat SHS - first day is Sept 7 at 9:00am.

Volunteers are welcome in all programs.

Greetings! Message to all Stafford Soccer Families

Registration is now open for Fall Soccer 2024 for both Travel Soccer and Recreational Soccer programs.

Registration for Travel Soccer is for kids aged Under 9 through Under 14 (date of birth in calendar years 2016 through 2011). We anticipate forming travel teams to compete in the CJSA NorthEast District again this fall. The pre-season training starts in August so we ask all players to be registered by August 1. Player skill assessments will be conducted at the training sessions. The registration fee is $70/player for travel soccer. There is a 2-player maximum fee per family. A couple of the older team ages are set up with a waitlist to help us gauge interest prior to collecting the registration fee.

Registration for Recreational Soccer is for kids aged Under 4 through Under 8 (date of birth in calendar years 2021 through 2017). Programs will be formed at Under 4 three-year-old Microkickers, Under 6 four-and-five-year-old Minikickers, and Under 8 six-and-seven-year-old Intramurals. We will begin play on or around September 1 with actual start dates for each program to be announced in August. Volunteer coaches and assistant coaches are needed for all programs, no experience required. The registration fee is $35/player for recreational soccer. There is a 2-player maximum fee per family. We will accept registrations up through September 1 and consider any late registrations after that on a space-available basis.

Rec soccer Spring 2024

Sessions will be held Saturday mornings from 10:00am-11:00am at the Stafford Middle School large field adjacent to the parking lot. The first Saturday is April 27 and then every Saturday morning through June 8. The sessions will be skills and scrimmage activities.

The intent is to split into two groups based upon age. Kids born in 2019 and 2020 will be in the Minikickers group. Kids born in 2016 and 2017 will be in the Intramurals group. Kids born in 2018 can choose which group is best for them.

We don't intend to create any formal teams at this time so the scrimmages will be organized based on that day's attendance.

We have some coach volunteers (thanks) and could use a few more. Sign up as a volunteer or contact me directly if interested even on a part time basis.
