Your eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) measures how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood. A low eGFR can be a sign of kidney disease—but can you improve it?

👉 The short answer: You can’t reverse kidney damage, but you can take steps to slow its progression and protect your remaining kidney function.

Here’s how to support a healthier eGFR:

✅ Control your blood pressure – High BP is a leading cause of kidney damage.
✅ Manage blood sugar – Especially important for people with diabetes.
✅ Eat a kidney-friendly diet – Low sodium, limited phosphorus and potassium.

🔬 What Do Your Lab Results Mean?

If you're on dialysis, you may see lab values like BUN, Creatinine, Potassium, and Phosphorus on your reports. Here’s what they tell us:

✅ BUN & Creatinine – Measure waste in your blood. Dialysis helps remove these!
✅ Potassium – Important for heart health, but too much can be dangerous.
✅ Phosphorus – High levels can weaken your bones and cause itching.
