🍼💙 Protecting your baby starts with knowing what to look for.

Cases of congenital syphilis are increasing, but the condition is preventable with early testing and proper care during pregnancy. When syphilis is identified and treated early, it can help protect both parent and baby from serious health complications.

Our latest blog explains what congenital syphilis is, how it can be passed from parent to baby, and why routine prenatal screening and follow up care are so important. It also shares what expecting parents can do to protect their pregnancy and where to find support.

At Legacy Community Health, we’re committed to making sure families get clear information and compassionate prenatal care, regardless of insurance or ability to pay.

💙 Black maternal health is a crisis, and it’s one our community cannot ignore.

At Legacy Community Health, our OB/GYN teams see firsthand how deeply the Black maternal health crisis affects mothers, babies, and families across Houston. In Harris County, Black mothers continue to face the highest maternal mortality rates in the country, and most pregnancy related deaths are preventable.

Dr. Erica Giwa, Medical Director of OB/GYN at Legacy, often emphasizes that improving maternal health starts with examining how care is delivered. Too often, symptoms can be overlooked or concerns not addressed quickly enough, which why Legacy’s approach to maternal care is built around listening, acting early, and staying connected before, during, and after pregnancy.

From prenatal navigation and postpartum checks to extra support for higher risk patients, Legacy teams work to make sure no mother falls through the cracks, especially during the postpartum period, when risks can remain high.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we’re sharing what Legacy wants you to know: safe, respectful, and responsive care saves lives, and it should be accessible to everyone.

Seen. Heard. Protected.

During Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting the women who are changing healthcare for the better, including Dr. Erica Giwa, Medical Director of OB/GYN at Legacy.

In Houston, Black mothers face higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth, due to long standing gaps in access, early detection, and timely response within the healthcare system. Dr. Giwa is working to change that by leading with compassion, listening closely, and advocating for care that respects every mother’s voice.

At Legacy, maternal care is about more than appointments, it’s about trust, early support, and making sure moms feel safe every step of the way.

Today and every day, we honor the women shaping the future of maternal health and protecting families across our community.

💙 Childhood obesity is rising — but with early support, families can change a child’s health for life.

At Legacy Community Health, we know raising healthy kids isn’t always easy — and families don’t have to do it alone.

In a recent Telemundo interview, Dr. Iliana Solano, one of our Legacy pediatricians, talks about childhood obesity and why early support, healthy habits, and regular checkups can make a big difference for children and their families. She also shares how Legacy walks alongside parents with guidance, care, and resources every step of the way.

🌟 Celebrating 10 Years of School-Based Health Care! 🌟

We recently joined YES Prep Public Schools to celebrate a decade of partnership and a decade of helping students stay healthy and ready to learn. And with February marking School‑Based Health Care Month, the timing couldn’t have been better to honor this work. 💙

For the past 10 years, our SBHC clinics have helped students get the care they need, right on campus. From checkups and vaccines to behavioral health support and chronic care management, our goal is simple: keep kids healthy, in school, and ready to learn.

By removing barriers like transportation, scheduling challenges, and cost, school-based care makes staying healthy easier for students and families across Houston. 💙

We’re also grateful for the community support that helps fuel this work. Last fall, our Frank Billingsley Golf Classic raised a record-breaking $500,000 to support student health programs, strengthening and expanding services for Houston area youth. ⛳💙 And yes, the next tournament is coming this October, stay tuned!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month - an important reminder that early dental care helps children stay healthy.

Legacy offers pediatric dental services at three locations:
• Fifth Ward
• BakerRipley
• Almatha Clark Taylor School-Based Health Clinic in Galena Park.

In this video, Dr. Amar Trivedi, Legacy’s Dental Director, shares why regular dental visits are essential for growing children—and how we make that care accessible for every family.
Even if your clinic doesn’t have dental care on-site, we’ll help you find the nearest Legacy location and get your child scheduled.
