Atlantodental Interval ( ADI ) is the space created between parts of C1 and C2 vertebra. This interval is a critical mesaurment in assesing Cranio Servical Instability ( CCI ). This distance speaks of ligament stability between the two neck vertebra. Instability in neck could lead to undue pressure on delicate tissues such as blood vessels and nerves leading to pain, chronic headaches, brain fog, memory issues, fatigue, dizziness, imbalance, visual disturbaces, tingling and numbness in various parts of the body, and even spinal cord compression.
Here is an example of Severe Dental Overjet. The lower jaw was set back 9 mm. Sometimes adult teeth on top are pulled out to move the upper jaw back. Sometimes jaw surgery is done to move the lower jaw forward.
We advanced lower jaw forward by wearing a lower orthotic 24/7 for six month then brought the teeth together into a comfortable bite.
While, the aesthetic change is significant what is more impressive is the cnage in the neck vertebra.
The “before” xray shows neck vertebra clearly out of place and the “after” xrays shows much better alignment. Furthermore, slide three shows drastic reduction in the atlantodental interval. This means better stability of neck and less chance for pathology laterl on in life.
