🌟 This year has been unforgettable. What began as a part-time dream and side hustle has grown into a thriving full-time practice.

-Listen actively
-Model slow speech
-Be patient
-Maintain natural eye contact

🚫DON’TS:
-Interrupt sentences
-Fill-in words or complete sentences
-Say “relax”
-Limit speaking opportunities

Stuttering often begins between ages 2 and 6. If it persists for more than 6 months, seek a comprehensive evaluation from a licensed speech-language pathologist 🗣️

💡 Sounds like they might benefit from orofacial myofunctional therapy.

👎 Prolonged thumb sucking can result in dental malocclusion, chronic mouth-breathing, a high and narrow palate, improper tongue posture, and imprecise speech production.

Other noxious oral habits include finger sucking, nail biting, hair chewing, and extended bottle or pacifier use.

We often hear from parents “my child can watch their favorite show for hours but won’t complete a simple puzzle”.

According to Gaertner et al., 2008, children that are 2-3 years of age should attend to a task for 5-8 minutes.

Speech-language pathologists facilitate attention and create learning-rich environments.

🧠 Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurological disorder characterized by difficulty planning and sequencing oral muscle movements required for speech production.

CAS can result in significant communication difficulties and frustration for the child and those around them.

⭐️ At One Speech Therapy, our licensed speech-language pathologists are trained to use dynamic assessment for differentially diagnosing CAS and for determining severity and prognosis.

Some treatment approaches include tactile-kinesthetic approaches (e.g., PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) and motor programming approaches (e.g., Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing).

Treatment focuses on increasing a child’s overall intelligibility and comprehensibility, as well as providing AAC systems to enhance communication.

Speech intelligibility is the percentage of speech that a listener can understand.

Research shows that children should be understood:
⭐️ 25-50% of the time between 19-24 months
⭐️ 50-75% of the time between 2-3 years
⭐️ 75-90% of the time between 4-5 years
⭐️ 90-100% of the time by 5+ years

Remember that every child is different and this is AROUND where your child should be.
