Irritable Bowel- The Integrative Medicine Approach
Evaluate Food Sensitivities and Intolerances

Many people suffer from intermittent abdominal pains, accompanied by either constipation, diarrhea, or both.

Conventional approaches may include testing to rule out other serious GI conditions but don't otherwise effectively evaluate the underlying condition.

EVALUATE FOOD SENSITIVITIES

Certain foods may trigger or worsen IBS symptoms. Standard allergy tests called IgE blood tests will not uncover many
Food Sensitivities. Measuring immune reactions by stimulating white blood cells called leukocytes is important. https://drsobo.com/food-allergy-testing/
Restore Gut Health
Balancing your gut microbiome is key to managing IBS symptoms. Consider a stool analysis to determine the composition
of your gut flora, identify harmful bacteria or other organisms, and create a targeted plan for replenishing beneficial bacteria.
Probiotic and prebiotic supplements can further support this process, promoting a balanced and healthy digestive environment
Relieve Stress
The brain-gut connection plays a significant role in IBS, as stress can directly impact GI symptoms.
Stress-reduction strategies tailored to your needs are best. These may include mindfulness practices, meditation,
and other therapeutic techniques to help regulate the nervous system and alleviate stress-related IBS symptoms.
Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) for Food Allergies
For those with IBS, managing allergies and sensitivities can be vital. Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) is an innovative,
non-invasive approach to treating allergies by placing allergen drops under the tongue. This method gradually builds
tolerance to allergens over time, potentially providing lasting relief without the need for injections.
SLIT is well-regarded internationally and may offer an effective way to address symptoms linked to IBS.

PANTETHINE FOR ENERGY

Pantothenic acid, also called Vitamin B5, helps turn the food you eat into energy. It’s important for many functions in the body, especially energy production and its role in fat metabolism. Pantethine is a derivative of vitamin B5 used as a nutritional supplement, because of its beneficial effect providing energy and adrenal support, as well as on lipid metabolism favorably altering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol metabolism levels.

A study published by the National Library of Medicine-National Center for Biotechnology Information found that Pantethine, a derivative of Vitamin B5, favorably alters total Cholesterol, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol in low to moderate cardiovascular risk subjects eligible for statin therapy: a triple-blinded placebo and diet-controlled investigation. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21925346/ In this study there were 120 participants who were given Pantethine for the 16 week study period- 600mg /day through week 8, and 900 mg/d, until the completion of the 16 week period. They monitored the study subjects to determine the safety and efficacy of pantethine on total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol metabolism who were classified as having a low to moderate cardiovascular disease risk.

The hypothesis of the study was that pantethine might lower total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein in a low-cardiovascular risk population in North American subjects following up on similar study subjects from Japanese and Italian studies. https://drsobo.com/supplements/

A MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENT WITH BETTER ABSORPTION

Magnesium, is required for over 300 enzymatic reactions. Therefore, it is essential for numerous metabolic pathways that are responsible for energy generation, gene regulation, bone and teeth maintenance, and optimal functioning of the brain and nervous system. Most magnesium supplements have been shown to have low bioavailability after ingestion, and also cause some people GI intolerance. This form of magnesium-magnesium threonate has been shown to effectively raise magnesium levels in the brain and neurons after ingestion [11]. Mg supplementation has been shown to improve symptoms of migraine headaches, possibly help cognition, and have a beneficial effect on anxiety in subjects prone to mental stress [4,5]. Higher intake of Mg has been associated with lower depression symptoms [6] [12,13] https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9786204/

In the United States, the National Health and Nutrition Survey done between 2011 and 2014 included over 2500 participants above 60 years old. That study found that healthy magnesium levels were associated with higher global cognitive scores [8] [9,10]. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was done on older American adult subjects between 50 and 70 years of age showing that supplementation with magnesium L-threonate significantly improved overall cognitive scores when compared to the subjects given a placebo.

Magnesium is an essential mineral in the body, as it is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate many important biochemical reactions. It is involved in protein synthesis, blood glucose regulation, blood pressure regulation, and muscle and nerve functions[1–3]. Magnesium is an essential element in the production and health of the skeletal system. It is necessary for energy production through its role in the breakdown of glucose to release energy. It has been called the "magnificent mineral".

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT

Bioidentical hormones to support both women and men are used to maintain a healthier body as we age,

and relieve the symptoms of hormone deficiencies, which are a part of the aging process.

Unlike synthetic hormones, bioidentical hormones closely mimic those naturally produced by the body, helping to alleviate symptoms

associated with hormone decline. Beyond symptom relief, BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement therapy) can also play

a role in disease prevention, supporting overall well-being as part of a comprehensive anti-aging program.

Symptoms Common To Men and Women

Low Libido Aches & Pains Weakness

Fatigue Depression Forgetfulness

Thinning skin Headaches Bone Loss

Sleep Disturbances Decreased Stamina “Burned Out" feeling

Also for women,Vaginal Dryness

And for men-Decreased Erections

Understanding Estrogen Dominance

An imbalance between estrogen and progesterone can lead to a condition known as estrogen dominance,

which can contribute to symptoms such as: Water retention -Breast tenderness - PMS -Low libido

-Uterine fibroids -Weight gain and sugar cravings. These symptoms can be successfully managed with natural progesterone,

highlighting the importance of maintaining a balanced hormonal profile.
Testosterone for Both Men and Women

Often considered the “male hormone,” testosterone is also crucial for women’s health. Balanced testosterone levels support energy,

strength, mood, and even cardiovascular health in both sexes. Take a proactive approach, testing for testosterone

imbalances and providing tailored treatment to optimize your success !

Vitamin K2 for Bone, Brain and Cardiovascular Health

Studies have established that Vitamin K2 is a vital nutrient recognized for supporting bone and cardiovascular health. https://drsobo.com/vitamin-k/Vitamin K2 is involved in the synthesis of sphingolipids, which are present in high concentrations in brain cell membranes. Sphingolipids are important for numerous cellular functions and the very survival of brain cells. Clinical studies have linked alterations in sphingolipid containing membranes to age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s .10-12 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8483258/

Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is a crucial cardiovascular nutrient. A healthy intake of vitamin K2 and adequate body tissue levels may help to avoid the calcium containing plaque buildup of coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease by ameliorating the risk and rate of calcification .1-3 Vitamin K2 having been shown to favorably affect arterial calcification, it important to note that no other compound- either a vitamin or a drug- has been shown to do this. Thus, Vitamin K2 is being recommended as a therapy for patients who are shown to have significant arterial calcifications .6,7 This nutrient also lends a vital cardiovascular support to patients with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis and also to renal transplant recipients.8,9

Author K Rheaumr-Blue published the book “Vitamin K2 and the calcium paradox: how a little-known vitamin could save your life“ He says, “The secret to avoiding calcium-related osteoporosis and atherosclerosis- while millions of people take calcium and Vitamin D supplement.

The Importance of Vitamin D for Overall Health

Research shows that maintaining a healthy level of Vitamin D may impart many health benefits.
https://drsobo.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-linked-to-premature-death/

Osteoporosis – Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of osteoporosis. Without sufficient vitamin D, the body cannot adequately absorb calcium, which is necessary for strong bones. https://www.osteoporosis.foundation/patients/prevention/vitamin-d

Heart Disease – Vitamin D levels have been found to be lower in patients with chronic heart failure. A study of over 9,000 female subjects, aged 65 and older, found that the women who used vitamin D supplements reduced their risk of heart disease death by 31%. https://drsobo.com/vitamin-d-reduces-arterial-stiffness-may-prevent-heart-disease/

Vitamin D Can Improve Mood – Oregon State University published a study of 185 female college students, aged 18 to 25. The women with lower levels of vitamin D were more likely to experience significant depressive symptoms. https://drsobo.com/vit-depression/

Cancer – Research has consistently shown an association between healthy vitamin D levels and a lower risk of many types of cancer. Patients who regularly consumed fish (a good source of Vitamin D) were 40% less likely to develop colonic polyps. https://drsobo.com/high-vitamin-levels-increase-survival-patients-metastatic-colorectal-cancer/

Chronic Inflammation – Being overweight is associated with chronic inflammation. A study published in Cancer Prevention Research with 200 overweight subjects showed that, by the end of the study, those who took vitamin D supplements while losing weight experienced the most significant decline in markers of inflammation. https://drsobo.com/weight-loss-combined-with-vitamin-d-supplements-reduces-chronic-inflammation/

CONSIDER SLOW RELEASE MELATONIN FOR SLEEP

Your brain produces melatonin in response to darkness, and it has been referred to as the "sleep hormone."

Melatonin helps regulate the timing of your circadian rhythms (your 24-hour internal clock). However, melatonin production declines with age. It can be taken as a supplement to help with sleep problems, such as insomnia or jet lag. Many people who try melatonin may find it only partially effective, helping them fall asleep but not staying in their system long enough to provide lasting benefits. The melatonin available for purchase may not remain in the body long enough to produce the desired long-term effects. SLOW RELEASE MELATONIN MAY BE THE ANSWER. This type of preparation releases melatonin more slowly, which may be much more effective in inducing longer-lasting sleep.

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recognizes melatonin as the first-line pharmacological therapy for insomnia. Source.

Hypomelatoninemia (low blood levels of melatonin) occurs when a person has lower-than-normal melatonin production compared to what’s expected for their age, or when nighttime melatonin levels are lower than normal.

Hypomelatoninemia can play a role in circadian rhythm sleep disorders, which are a group of sleep disorders characterized by a disruption in the timing of sleep. Source

A lack of sleep contributes to the development of a number of health problems, such as high blood pressure, obesity, and insulin resistance, which increases your risk of Type 2 diabetes.

If standard melatonin supplements haven't worked for you, consider trying Slow Release Melatonin.

FIBROMYALGIA The Integrative Approaches to Treatment

Because fibromyalgia involves such a wide array of symptoms, the most effective treatments go beyond standard medications. The currently available FDA-approved medications don't provide effective support for most people living with fibromyalgia. Many find that a more

comprehensive/ Integrative Medicine approach works better for them.https://drsobo.com/fibromyalgia/

Dietary Adjustments and Immunotherapy
Sensitivities to certain foods or environmental factors can exacerbate symptoms, so testing for food allergies and other sensitivities may help. In some cases, removing certain foods from the diet or using immunotherapy for allergens like mold or dust can make a substantial difference.
Nutritional Support
Many fibromyalgia patients have nutrient deficiencies that can contribute to their symptoms. Treatment often includes both oral and intravenous vitamins to address these deficiencies.
Hormonal Balancing
Addressing imbalances in hormones like cortisol and thyroid hormones can alleviate some symptoms. Routine testing can identify areas for improvement, offering a personalized approach to restoring balance. hypothyroidism
Improving Sleep and Stress Management
Quality sleep is essential for fibromyalgia sufferers, and natural approaches like deep breathing exercises or meditation can support relaxation without medication. Nutritional supplements, such as 5-HTP, GABA, melatonin, and herbal remedies may enhance sleep and relaxation.

NEW FOOD ALLERGY TREATMENT
Testing- Why Standard Allergy Tests Fall Short

The common IgE blood test is designed to detect immediate allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. While essential for diagnosing severe allergies, this test does not reveal cellular-level immune responses, which are responsible for delayed reactions and chronic symptoms associated with food sensitivities, like dairy or gluten intolerance. Even when IgE tests show negative results, many patients can still experience significant symptoms.

To provide a more comprehensive understanding, we utilize a specialized blood test that measures immune reactions by stimulating leukocytes (white blood cells), helping uncover chronic sensitivities and delayed allergic responses.
Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) Allergy Drops

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) is an innovative, non-invasive way to treat allergies without the need for injections. This form of immunotherapy involves administering small doses of allergens under the tongue via drops, allowing the body to gradually build immunity over time. SLIT has gained widespread acceptance across Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia. In the U.S., it is considered an “off-label” alternative to traditional allergy shots.
How SLIT Works:

Allergy Testing: First, we conduct tests to determine your specific sensitivities to food or environmental allergens.
Treatment Plan: Based on the results, an allergen extract is prepared in liquid form. Patients take the drops daily under the tongue.
Long-Term Relief: While symptoms may improve quickly, long-term use is required—usually over a year—to develop lasting immunity.

RETATRUTIDE MAY OFFER MORE WEIGHT LOSS THAN ANY CURRENT MEDICATION ON THE MARKET

Eli Lilly the developer of the mediation, has reported on their Phase 2 study Trial- Triple Hormone-Receptor Agonist Retatrutide for Obesity

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/experimental-drug-offer-weight-loss-drug-now-market-study-finds-rcna89702

PARTICIPANTS AND RESULTS- The study subjects were between 18 and 75 years old and had a body-mass index (bmi) of between 30 and fifty.

They continued on the retatrutide for 48 weeks . The study measured their percentage of weight loss at 24 weeks and then again at 48 weeks. The medications' safety was also assessed.

Body weight measured at 24 weeks :

Those who took the 1 mg dose lost 7.2% of their body weight , the 4 mg group lost 12.9 %, the 8 mg group lost 17.3%, and the 12mg group lost 17.5% of their body weight.

Body weight measured again at 48 weeks : The 1-mg group lost 8.7 % of their body weight, the 4-mg group lost 17.1% ,the 8-mg group lost 22.8%, and the 12mg group lost 24.2% of their body weight !

The most common adverse events in the retatrutide groups were gastrointestinal; these events were dose-related, were mostly mild to moderate in severity, and were partially mitigated with a lower starting dose (2 mg vs. 4 mg). There was also dose -dependent asymptomatic increase in heart rate which peaked at 24 weeks and declined thereafter.

Conclusions. This study showed a clearly significant reduction in body weight for those treated with retatrutide treatment for 48 weeks in all doses tested. (Funded by Eli Lilly; ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT04881760.)
