🌟 December is Here… and So Are the Feelings We Don’t Talk About Enough
A message for the grieving heart
December is beautiful—lights twinkling, families gathering, songs rising in the air… but for many, this month also awakens a kind of ache that sits quietly behind the festivities.
An ache that memory stirs.
An ache only God fully sees.
An ache that whispers, “It shouldn’t hurt this much during the holidays.”
But can I tell you something gently and truthfully?
Grief doesn’t check the calendar.
It doesn’t pause because it’s Christmas.
It doesn’t soften just because everyone else is celebrating.
Some of you are stepping into December with:
✨ an empty chair
✨ a name you can’t say without tears
✨ a family that looks different this year
✨ a memory that feels both comforting and crushing
✨ a season that feels heavier than holy
If that’s you, hear this with all the tenderness in the world:
God is close to the brokenhearted — yes, right now, right here, in December.
(Psalm 34:18)
Jesus came into a world full of grief, loss, and longing.
He understands what it means to weep… to miss… to feel the weight of humanity.
He doesn’t ask you to hide your sorrow under tinsel or pretend your heart isn’t aching.
He sits with you in it.
He calls you by name.
He whispers, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
This season isn’t just about celebration —
It’s about Emmanuel.
God with us.
God with you.
In the tears.
In the memories.
In the empty spaces.
In the longing for what was and the uncertainty of what will be.
If December feels heavy instead of merry, you are not alone.
If your joy and sorrow are tangled together, God holds both.
If you’re grieving this year, may you know:
💛 Your grief is not a lack of faith.
💛 Your tears are not weakness.
💛 Your memories are sacred.
💛 Your story still matters to God.
And in the quiet places where grief feels loudest, may Christ meet you with a peace that doesn’t make sense, a comfort that truly heals, and a hope that carries you into each new day.
This Christmas, may you feel Emmanuel — God with you — more deeply than ever.
If you’re grieving, struggling, or simply navigating a tender December, Be Still Counseling is here to hold space for you.
You don’t have to walk this season alone. 💛
