According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. It is the most common cancer in women worldwide.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation reports that the overall 5 year survival rate is around 91%, with early-stage breast cancer being over 99%. Early detection of breast cancer is very important.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend women at average risk of breast cancer to start screening mammograms at age 40.

Women with a family history of breast cancer, dense breasts, or other risk factors may need to start mammograms earlier and/or get them more frequently.
