🗣️ Spotlight on Jerry Whitlock: Aging with Purpose
🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
As an active senior in the community, what keeps you motivated to keep working and staying active every day?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
I work at Food Lion because I like talking to people. I meet a lot of seniors and folks who come in and ask, “Are you Mr. Jerry from Facebook?” I say, “Is that a good thing?” — and they say yes!
I also read to kids at schools, and I love it. Kids are our future. If you can mentor or read to them, you should do it.

🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
What does staying independent and active mean to you at this stage in life?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
It means I hope I live longer — there you go!

🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
What advice would you give to other seniors who want to stay involved?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
Even if you don’t work, go volunteer. Go to schools, libraries, or any senior center where you can help. The more you do, the better you’ll feel — trust me.

🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
How do your coworkers and customers at Food Lion respond to your energy?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
They like it! I told them, “I may not be the fastest cashier, but I’m good with people.”
My boss said, “I’m not worried about your speed — your customer service is what matters.”

🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
What do you enjoy doing outside of work that keeps you young?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
I walk a couple days a week, I read, and I shop — mostly to find books and things for the kids I read to.

🟣 Stress Free Home Care:
What’s one life lesson you think every young person should hear?

🟢 Jerry Whitlock:
Listen to your heart. Listen to your mentors.
Sometimes a kid will come up and say, “Mr. Jerry, I love when you read to us — we learned a lot and we’ll remember that.”
That makes you feel good.
