Leach Chiropractic Clinic

Leach Chiropractic Clinic Since 1979 Dr. Leach has offered Starkville unique expertise in chiropractic care and in musculoskel and chronic pain conditions, and maintenance care.

Our primary concern is relieving your spine and musculoskeletal related pain using safe, evidence informed non-surgical chiropractic and massage therapy techniques. Listening to your priorities is a big part of what we do, and assisting you in prevention of future problems and wellness coaching is available as well. Both manual and computer generated manipulation and massage techniques are offered for pain management and treatment of such conditions as acute and chronic back and leg, neck and arm, headache and fibromyalgia pain. Our staff includes Dr. Rob Leach, a chiropractic physician and Master Certified Health Education Specialist with over 40 years' clinical experience, Dr. Zachary Thomas, a chiropractic physician who formerly attended Starkville Academy and Mississippi State University, and Robbie Leach, a licensed massage therapist (LMT2002) who graduated from Starkville High School and Blue Cliff College in Gulfport. Since 1979 Robert A. Leach, D.C., M.S., MCHES, has served over 12,000 different patients from every part of Mississippi and west central Alabama. In addition to practice, Dr. Leach has worked with scientists at Mississippi State University completing biomedical research on such diverse topics as adults with forward head tilt, children with hyperactivity, and tests of muscle spasm associated with acute low back pain. In 2021 he joined an MSU scientist and others in publishing results of an 8-year study on seniors that showed nutrition risk is associated with low back pain. He has acted as mentor for a number of chiropractic students and kinesiology students, and because of his knowledge and expertise. Recently he became an adjunct teaching for the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion at MSU. Among serves on several committees and is Mississippi Delegate to the American Chiropractic Association. He was recently appointed as Chair of the Chiropractic Section of the American Public Health Association. Zachary B. Thomas, D.C. was raised in Starkville Ms., where he graduated High School from Starkville Academy in 2012. He attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with a Kinesiology degree in 2016. While at MSU Dr. Thomas served as manager for the football team and was a practice player for the women’s basketball team. An avid intramural basketball player, he also participated in various health fairs at MSU. He was interested in Physical Therapy as a profession, however, due to an unforeseen circumstance instead interned with a chiropractor. Impressed, he quickly made the switch to chiropractic school and graduated from Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta. Dr. Thomas enjoys watching sports (MSU, Atlanta Falcons, OKC Thunder), and plans to obtain certification (CCSP, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician) so that in addition to offering chiropractic spine care, he may better serve sport enthusiasts and athletes in Starkville and surrounding communities

Robbie Leach was graduated from Starkville High School, and later Blue Cliff College in 2012 with a degree in Massage Therapy, and provides excellent massage therapy and exercise services by appointment and on a walk-in basis when available. His interests are not limited to but include Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, lymphatic drainage and myofascial release. He also serves athletes in multiple sports at Mississippi State University, when not caring for patients at our office.

Reimagining care for older adults with lumbar spinal stenosis: a public health priority

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is one of the leading causes of pain, limited mobility, and loss of independence in older adults. As our population ages, the burden of LSS has become not just a clinical issue, but a public health concern tied to falls, social isolation, inactivity, and avoidable healthcare costs.

A new review in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies highlights a key message:
Conservative, non-operative care should be the first-line approach for most older adults with LSS.

Why conservative care matters:

• Preserves mobility and prevents disability.
Movement-based care helps older adults walk farther, stay active, and maintain independence.

• Reduces reliance on high-risk, high-cost interventions.
Many patients are offered surgery or long-term medications despite limited evidence for long-term benefit. Conservative care offers a safer, more sustainable path.

• Addresses contributors beyond anatomy.
A biopsychosocial approach recognizes the roles of fear, confidence, mood, and unmet social needs, factors that shape disability as much as imaging findings.

A call for systems-level change:
To make real progress, we need to:
– Integrate conservative musculoskeletal care into community and aging services
– Strengthen interprofessional pathways across chiropractic, PT, primary care, and public health
– Expand access for older adults facing financial or geographic barriers
– Educate patients and caregivers early about non-operative options
– Use functional outcomes that reflect what matters most: walking, standing, daily life

LSS may begin as a clinical diagnosis, but its ripple effects touch disability, mental health, social connection, and quality of life. This review reinforces the importance of evidence-based, person-centered conservative care as a foundation for healthy aging.

Aging equity depends on mobility and this new evidence gives us direction for moving forward.
