It’s sunflower season here in PA! Below I listed 4 farms fairly close to State College that have sunflowers blooming! While I’m fairly certain all the information below is accurate, double-check the farms’ website to make sure…and to make sure they’re blooming when you go! I am a sucker for sunflowers and have gone to all of these multiple times! If you go to any of them, send me some pics!

🌻 The Heirloom Farmer (Port Matilda) - Just 20 minutes from State College, this farm is pure charm. Abbie and Steve (the husband-and-wife team behind it) set up the sweetest photo spots among their pick-your-own sunflower fields—with gorgeous mountain views as the backdrop. Entry is $10, which includes a cup of sunflowers to take home. Open now until September 14.

🌻 Rooted Farmstead (Bellefonte)
You already know how much I adore Rooted Farmstead! Right now, you’ll find smaller beds of sunflowers sprinkled around the farm (not one giant field—yet). Free to visit, with the option to pick your own cup or bucket of sunflowers, along with many other beautiful blooms. The big sunflower field is just starting to pop so stay tuned!

🌻 Dotterer Sunflowers (Mill Hall)
About 30 minutes from downtown State College, this medium-sized sunflower field offers more than just blooms—it has a sunflower maze! Weekends often bring local vendors with food and crafts. Entry to the maze is $7 for adults, and sunflower stems are $1 each. Open now until September 6.

🌻 Lesher Poultry Farm (Chambersburg)
The mother of all sunflower fields! This one is worth the 2-hour drive. Lesher’s 200+ acre sunflower farm is absolutely breathtaking—you’ll be surrounded in every direction. The farm grows sunflowers for seed but creates a dirt roadway through the fields for visitors. They also grow special picking varieties. Admission is free; stems are $1 each. Pro tip: check their Facebook or Instagram for directions and updates. Peak bloom this year is expected September 6–7. I would recommend going right around the peak! I try to go every year when my schedule allows for it.

One more watercolor sunflower class is coming this Saturday at 5 pm at The Heirloom Farmer in Port Matilda! For this class, we will focus on painting individual flower blooms. Ticket includes entrance to the field, a pick-your-own cup of sunflowers, and the watercolor workshop. All materials are provided. Plus, the Mini Whinnies 🐴 are scheduled to visit the farm at the same time! Come relax and create in a dreamy field of yellow blooms!

AUGUST 27!!! Come paint bud vases with flowers at the adorable Rooted Farmstead Downtown State College Pop-up shop on Calder Way! I have loved seeing all the bright little vases and thought how much fun it would be to paint them! Class is held 6-8 pm. Add a make-your-own bouquet to your class so you leave with fresh flowers from the farm.

My first ever Kid Watercolor class is tomorrow (Saturday) morning at Rooted Farmstead!!! Included in the ticket price is one mini-bouquet that the kiddos can pick themselves on the farm.
