Mount Nittany Health’s team of oncology patient navigators are dedicated to helping patients manage the unforeseen challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis.

As advocates for patients and their families, they strive to alleviate and eliminate barriers to care such as transportation, fuel assistance, home health assistance, and so much more – all of which is made possible by the Mount Nittany Health Foundation and local partners like Houck Family Services.

Houck Family Services has been an exemplary community partner for the oncology navigation team and patients for many years. They provide transportation to and from treatment appointments and offer in-home services like cleaning, companion care, meal preparation, and grocery delivery.

Recently, staff from Houck Family Services reached out to the oncology navigation team wishing to show their appreciation for their long-standing partnership by providing lunch and some delicious homemade desserts.

“It was wonderful to take some time to celebrate a partnership that has been instrumental for many of our patients on their personal journeys with cancer and to be in the company of individuals who share a common goal. We are so grateful to Houck Family Services, and all our community partners, for their compassionate care of our patients,” said Ashley Mekis, MSN, RN, OCN, NE-BC, Manager, Cancer Services, Mount Nittany Health.
