Sometimes the path to medicine isn’t a single moment—it’s the people you meet along the way.

For Dr McClellan, it was during his senior year of high school and early college years. He was fortunate to cross paths with mentors who left a deep impression on him and ultimately set him on the road to becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

One of those people was Dr. John Anastasi! . As a freshman, he watched him perform surgery at a time when he was pioneering and revolutionizing cardiac bypass surgery.

As per Dr McClellan, “He wasn’t just a brilliant surgeon—he was personable, skilled, and no doubt quite entertaining! He changed lives for the better, and quite literally saved countless lives. He treated patients exceptionally well, and was very well respected”.

This week, he had the true honor of caring for his family as patients. Talk about a full circle moment.

“To treat someone who once inspired me to enter medicine—knowing he trusted me with his care—was both humbling and incredibly meaningful”.

Dr Anastasi is still rocking and rolling, continues to do cardiac surgery in Ohio.

At University Orthopedics, it’s about more than just procedures. It’s about trust, relationships, and the lifelong connections that remind us why we do what we do.

Kayanna’s contributions extend far beyond her clinical role—she’s also a key member of the UOC Activities Committee, helping create moments of connection and joy for our entire team. Dr. Port, a board‑certified orthopedic surgeon at University Orthopedics Center, has been elected as a full Active Member—the highest-level membership granted. This invitation-only recognition is extended only to surgeons who demonstrate outstanding achievement in clinical care, research, and leadership—making Dr. Port the only orthopedic surgeon in Central Pennsylvania with this distinction.

Before receiving this honor, Dr. Port served as an ASES Associate Member for five years, a role reserved for surgeons on the path toward full membership who exhibit consistent excellence and leadership in the field.

Established in 1982, ASES is a globally recognized society composed of leading shoulder and elbow surgeons, dedicated to advancing education, research, and patient care. Membership is by invitation only and reflects a commitment to excellence in the field.�
Dr. Port brings over 30 years of experience to patients in the Altoona and Central Pennsylvania region. He specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, including arthroscopic procedures, shoulder replacement, advanced reconstruction, and revision shoulder surgeries. He completed his fellowship in 1994 and currently serves as the Head Team Physician for the Altoona Curve baseball team. Dr. Port also acts as a consultant for several regional colleges and high schools

Dr. McClellan and Dr. Greenleaf are not just performing outstanding hip and knee surgeries — they’re shaping the future of orthopedics. These two have been invited to speak at national and international conferences, sharing their expertise on advanced surgical protocols, improving efficiency, and reducing pain and narcotic use after surgery — all while delivering exceptional outcomes at our outpatient surgery center, Advanced Center for Surgery and UOCSS 👊.
