We are so grateful to welcome the Lupine Wellness Center to this year’s Community Mental Health Day!

The Lupine Wellness Center is an integrated service, training, and research center committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and accessible mental health counseling for the NEA community and A-State community. Their team offers confidential, comprehensive outpatient services- including individual counseling, couples and family therapy, play therapy, and group counseling as well as academic interventions, behavioral parent training, psychoeducation, workshops, and consultation.
They help people of all ages navigating emotional struggles, mental health struggles, trauma, relationship concerns, academic stress, identity exploration, overall personal growth, and more.

Aligned with the mission of A-State’s Department of Psychology and Counseling, Lupine serves as a training home for graduate students preparing to become skilled, compassionate professional mental health counselors and school psychologists. Their clinicians work under close supervision from faculty, blending strong clinical training with a deep commitment to service, community, and holistic wellness across the lifespan.

Come see them Saturday, December 6th at the Arkansas State University Museum!

LaShundra Merriweather is a third-year clinical mental health counseling student, counselor in training, and a clinical mental health counseling and play therapy intern. She works with children, adolescents, college students, and adults. She began providing services at Lupine in the spring semester of 2025.

Her clinical interest is play therapy with adults who have a history of trauma in childhood. "My theoretical orientation is Adlerian through and through! I explore the holistic lifespan and style to better understand underlying meanings and beliefs that may be influencing present behaviors or impacting current issues of concern," noted LaShundra. "I pull from many theories to increase opportunities for insightfulness that may lead to changes in thoughts, perspectives, and/or behaviors. This theoretical perspective also drives the power of the play agent that is used in play therapy sessions with children, adolescents, college students, and adults as well."

Kayla Morris is a third-year intern in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She serves a wide range of clients, including children, pre-teens, college students, and the geriatric population, with a concentration on play therapy.

"I view counseling as a collaborative process in which I work closely with each client to build rapport, identify and address core issues, set meaningful goals, and take steps to achieve positive change," said Morris. "While my main approach is person-centered and child centered, I also integrate techniques from other therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioral therapy, to suit each client’s unique needs. In addition to my clinical work, I am an active member of the Chi Sigma Iota Beta Rho Chapter and serve on the awards Committee."
