Every expression of plank offers benefits. Developing the physical power in your core, arms and legs is where most people begin. As your body becomes more familiar with stabilizing the posture, you can address the energetic and mental aspects of the practice. Having directed prana and established mindful focus, you'll feel steady and settle into ease.
Can you apply what you've learned from dhandasana to access vasisthasana?

We are all aging, but that doesn't also mean we have to do so in pain.
The results of the lifestyle you live while you're young can present as aches, discomforts, dis-ease and pain as you age. Back pain, joint aches, neck issues and imbalances become more noticeable.
We can't undo what you did. We can help you to adjust how you move through the development of awareness and intention. Instead of only addressing the area of discomfort we focus on you as a whole system. Through movement, breathing techniques and mindfulness you can learn to move better, feel better and live your best life.
Join a class book and Evaluative Session or Therapeutic Practice to address your needs to learn how to age without pain.
This version of dhandasana requires more than shoulder mobility.
What are the energetic qualities of this posture? Why would you apply it? How could it benefit you physically, energetically and emotionally?
How could it result in harm?

Become like a staff, a stick, a plank. Remain steady. Feel sakti in your center, lifting, you as you stabilize with udhanavayu.
What happens as you enter into dhandasana, while you attempt to retain it and as you release? What is your physical, emotional and mental experience?
01/18/2026
Be planking! Dhandasana translates as "staff posture." To remain steady, strong and long like a staff is the goal. What is the intention? How is this pose intended to affect you physically, energetically and emotionally? How can ease, steadiness and focus be developed during and through the application of this posture?
Show us your dhandasana and we'll help you adjust you to access sthira sukha asanam.

After you play, recover.
Why are we so bad at preparing and recovering from activities?
So many of our practitoners admit that they do not move their bodies to warm up, mobilize, awaken and ready for skiing, hiking, biking, golfing, paddling, etc. We also ask if they recover by moving into opposite process and the answer is almost always, "no."
Your body will feel better if you prepare and recovering it for your adventures and play. You'll have fewer aches and less pain. You'll move with more eas and feel more confident as you do so.
If you aren't good at doing it in your own, then join us to take care of yourself.
There is grounding in this posture.
There is fluidity.
There is airiness.
There is heat.
In every asana there should be an intention of sattva. Through the direction and adjustment of prana we can choose where to cultivate sakti. Having established sattva we experience sukha.
This is more than a posture, it's an experience of self.

There's so much more happening than what you see when you look at a body in an asana. Beyond the structure and alignment there is intention, mindful effort and energetic direction. The quality of prana is shifting. Perspective is changing.
As with every asana, downward facing dog can be applied as a body-focused position with an intention of fitness. Or, it can be a posture that helps you to develop self awareness and understanding. The latter is the practice of yoga.
01/14/2026
Every body is different so there can be no specific measurements for asana.
There are general cues for accessing and aligning postures.
What words come to mind when you think about the alignment of downward dog?
Where do you place your focus?
How do you direct your breath and energy?
These are the important aspects of creating asana.

You must first establish sthira sukham asanam on the solid ground before you can attempt to find it in other places.
We practice in a studio, on mats, with a guide so we can learn to proper alignment, establish steadiness and feel grounded. It's up to us to engage in sadhana everywhere.
Adhomukhasvanasana can be established anywhere, if you practice sankalpa and svadhyaya. The steadiness and ease in this posture isn't dependent upon the surface you're on, but rather your self awareness.

It was serendipity that led to the creation of Lake Tahoe Yoga. For years studio owner, Jenay, would joke when walking by empty commercial spaces saying, “That’s a good spot for a Yoga studio.” She never thought she would actually open one.
Jenay Aiksnoras, ERYT500, M.S. Counseling, B.S. Psychology completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training while studying for her Master’s Degree. At the time, she was working two jobs: nanny and flower delivery girl while also interning as a counselor. This is just a small example of her commitment and work ethic.
In 2008, Jenay and her husband Brian relocated from East (NY) to West (NV). Jenay began working as a School Counselor, Brian is a Physical Therapist. The two regularly discuss that which they are learning, challenged by, and struggling with in order to both grow as individuals and professionals. Brian’s knowledge of Physiology and Anatomy has helped Jenay improve her awareness of the human body. Jenay’s understanding of the human condition has helped Brian provide better treatment for his patients.
Lake Tahoe Yoga began as Svadhyaya Yoga Studio. Svadhyaya translates to mean Self Study. In the lineage of Rajahatha Yoga Svadhyaya is the most valuable practice to develop in order to access Samadhi (integration). The studio was built on a foundation of sharing knowledge and connecting with others through conversation as well as developing better awareness while moving and breathing.
As Svadhyaya Yoga Studio grew, so did Jenay; she completed her 500 level YTT in 2011 and established the Lake Tahoe Yoga School. She has trained dozens of new teachers in the lineage of Rajahatha Yoga. Svadhyaya Yoga Studio became Lake Tahoe Yoga and the motto “Practice Yoga Everywhere” is applied literally. Jenay has taught throughout the basin, at her teacher’s studio in Madison, Wisconsin, in Cambodia and at a few unique locations you should ask her about when you meet her.
Today, Lake Tahoe Yoga has become more than just a place to practice poses. The class schedule is simply labeled to reflect the style of Asana and lineage that will be practiced. Every class includes a philosophical focus, intentional sequencing and directed breathing. In the tradition of Hatha Yoga practices of Mantra, Bandha and Satkarma are incorporated.
Every class begins with a Dharmic Focus. We discuss topics written about in ancient texts including The Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Vedas and Upanishads. We will chat about how Yoga has influenced the various practices of modern times as well as how some of the ancient techniques are not quite as applicable today. You will learn proper technique for accessing postures, the proper application for directed breath, mindfulness practices you can do anywhere and more.
All ages and abilities are welcome at Lake Tahoe Yoga. It is the perfect place to begin, grow and deepen your practice. To learn more about our Classes, Teacher Training, Therapeutic Sessions, Private Bookings, Corporate Classes and our unique Realignment Coaching. Visit LakeTahoeYoga.com.
