We're loving this adult version of trick or treat from :
As the season of trick-or-treating arrives, we’re reminded that not everything that looks like a “treat” truly nourishes us — and not every “trick” is what it seems. Our minds love to play tricks, pulling us toward endless distractions, worries, or chasing what we think we need. Meanwhile, the real sweetness of life quietly waits in the present moment.
The trick is how easily we forget to pause.
The treat is what we rediscover when we do.
Each time we notice a trick our mind plays, we can uncover a treat waiting to be savored. Here are some examples of the mind’s common tricks → and the mindful treats we can notice when we pause:
Trick: Rushing through the day without noticing → Treat: Feeling your feet on the ground or the rhythm of the breath
Trick: Worrying about what’s next → Treat: Savoring the simple moment in front of you — a warm mug in your hands, the sun on your face, the crunch of leaves beneath your feet
Trick: Multitasking and being pulled in all directions → Treat: Giving one task or one person your full attention and feeling the richness of focus
Trick: Comparing yourself to others → Treat: Appreciating your own unique experience, body, and mind exactly as they are
Trick: Chasing the “big” moments of happiness → Treat: Noticing the quiet delights — laughter shared with a friend, a smile from a stranger, the flicker of a candle
Trick: Letting your mind dwell on the past → Treat: Returning to the now, to the subtle sensations and colors of the present moment
Trick: Believing you must do more to feel worthy → Treat: Simply noticing that you are enough exactly as you are
