“As Executive Director of the Pride Center of Staten Island, I am deeply concerned about efforts to deny transgender youth access to medically necessary, evidence-based gender-affirming care. The proposed denial of Medicaid and CHIP funding for gender-affirming care for transgender youth is both harmful and dangerous.

Penalizing hospitals and providers for delivering medically recommended care will only limit access and increase disparities for families, who already face barriers to healthcare. This care would put vulnerable young people at greater risk and limit families’ ability to make healthcare decisions with their trusted providers.

Every young person deserves compassionate, appropriate healthcare without fear or political interference.”
