Your menstrual cycle can tell you more about your health than you might think. 🔍

Regularity, duration, and the nature of your flow—all these factors are crucial in assessing your overall well-being.🔮

Heavy or p*inful periods, irregular cycles, spotting mid-cycle—these are not just inconveniences but possible signs of underlying issues that need attention.

đŸ©ș As an OBGYN, I see many cases where women could have managed their health challenges more easily if they had sought help earlier.

For example, conditions like endometriosis or polycystic o***y syndr*me (PCOS) can be effectively controlled when treated in the early stages âžĄïž

Planning a pregnancy is an important and responsible stage in every woman’s life. 💕

Regular consultations with a gynecologist can significantly increase the chances of successful conception and a healthy pregnancy. But when exactly should you see a doctor? Let’s find out! đŸ©ș

It’s very simple — as soon as you start planning, it’s best to make an appointment with a gynecologist. During the appointment:

‱ Discuss your overall health with the doctor.
‱ Undergo a medical examination and necessary tests.
‱ Get recommendations on nutrition, physical activity, and vitamin intake đŸ„—đŸ’Š.

In multiple stages of a woman’s life, hormonal changes can influence mood and healthy being.
Let’s go through some of those stages and understand why that happens đŸ‘‡đŸŒ

Puberty is one of the first stages in which your female hormones start to change, and you feel it at peaks and lows of your levels. It can give you an idea of how your body reacts to hormonal changes later in life.

The next stage when drastic hormonal change is notable is the postpartum period. It is one of the sharpest drops of hormones a woman will experience in a lifetime. If you have a hard time adjusting emotionally at puberty and have significant premenstrual symptoms, you have to have a great support system and be aware of signs of postpartum depression.

The next time you go through the second most significant drop of hormones is menopause, and no, it’s not hysteria. Perimenopause/post-menopause is a considerable adjustment period to much lower hormonal levels. And here, it’s helpful if your gynecologist listens and hears you and your complaints. They can be addressed symptomatically or with hormone replacement therapy.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by hormonal changes, don’t hesitate to seek help, whether it’s from a trusted friend, family member, or healthcare professional.

Remember, your feelings are valid, and you deserve to be heard and understood đŸ«‚

We frequently discuss hormonal IUDs as a form of birth control but rarely discuss other benefits that can come from a hormonal IUD.

So, lets dicuss the:
✅ Lighter periods - after placing a hormonal IUD, your periods will become lighter.
✅ Less pain - Once your periods become lighter, the amount of pain you experience with them decreases as well.
Some people stop getting their periods altogether, and that becomes very convenient when planning day-to-day events as well as extracurricular events.
✅ Valid for women in peri-menopause when they start getting irregular or heavier bleeding.

In short, a hormonal IUD is a great treatment plan for many issues outside of contraception â˜đŸŒ

By understanding its benefits beyond contraception, women can make informed decisions about their reproductive health and take control of their well-being.

In reality, many women experience postpartum blues, which can start as early as 2-3 days after delivery and last for up to two weeks. During this time, you may feel overwhelmed, frustrated, disappointed, angry, and exhausted.

It is crucial to recognize that experiencing a range of emotions, including sadness, disappointment, and fatigue, in the first days and weeks after delivery is normal.

It is essential to know that if your symptoms persist and worsen after two weeks postpartum, you may need to seek medical help.

Postpartum depression is a treatable condition that can be managed with therapy, medication, or a combination of both. Your doctor can help you determine the best course of treatment, which may include antidepressants or zuranolone, a FDA-approved oral medication specifically designed for postpartum depression treatment.

Don’t hesitate to seek support if you’re experiencing a persistent and intense emotional distress after delivery. Remember that you’re not alone, and there are resources available to help you cope with this challenging time.

What do you do with menopause? Many generations of women have explained and accepted it as a right of passage. Suffer through it! That’s the main sentiment. I wouldn’t say I liked it then, and even more hate it now.

I don’t want a woman to feel “not like herself” and continue questioning if she is making it up. Can you imagine that up to 10 years before menopause, a woman can start experiencing some hormonal changes and will start feeling them? Some of the things that you can look out for are hot flashes, mood changes, issues with sleep, decreased s*x drive, and va**nal dryness. If you are experiencing any of these, even if you are not in menopause, speak to your doctor đŸ‘©đŸ»â€âš•ïž

Also, if you are in menopause and don’t want to deal with these symptoms anymore, talk to your doctor. I know that, thankfully, conversation about hormone replacement is coming back, but even if you do not want to be on hormone replacement, it’s essential for you to know that you have options to manage symptoms even if not on hormone replacement.

I heard this from one of the providers in the field, and it resonated with me. I want you to hear this as well. Menopause is a state of hormone deficiency, and I don’t think that anybody in the right mind would tell you to tough it out if you have hypothyroidism. If you have hypothyroidism, you get your hormones replaced. Let this sink in in light of menopausal symptoms â˜đŸŒ

When you talk about prolapse, you have to understand that the reasons for prolapse are frequently similar, but causes and solutions may differ.

Most of the time, prolapse happens because of the weakness of pelvic floor muscles or their trauma/damage with childbirth. Let’s unpack this: what does prolapse?

Prolapse could be of different levels, meaning how far down the prolapse happens, and the organs that prolapse may differ. You may have prolapse of the bladder, re**um, uterus, the wall of the va**na, or a combination of the above.

The most essential to work on is trying to keep your pelvic floor strong, whether with the help of exercise at home or with physical therapy. When there is damage to the muscle, you may need to have surgery for the repair.

How do you prioritize the health and strength of your pelvic floor muscles in your daily routine?
