April is Adenomyosis Awareness Month

Adenomyosis is the presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium or muscularis of the uterine wall.

It is a cousin to endometriosis.

Symptoms can include, but are not limited to, heavy, painful periods, cramps, clotting, bloating and a bowling ball like feeling in the lower pelvis.

There are few treatments available for adenomyosis. Full diagnosis can only be made through pathology of the uterus. Unlike with endometriosis, hysterectomy can be very useful for adenomyosis--if and when the person is ready.
