Meet Ms. Fay Goodson, our Resident Spotlight of the month at Browns Health & Rehab. Ms. Goodson came to us as a short-term resident after experiencing decreased strength and mobility that made it difficult for her to move safely and comfortably in bed.
When Fay first arrived, she required maximum to total assistance for all bed mobility tasks. However, she approached therapy with an exceptional work ethic and a determination to regain her independence. Over the course of her stay, she has made meaningful and measurable progress. She can now transition from lying supine to sitting at the edge of the bed with minimal to moderate assistance — a tremendous improvement. Even more impressively, Fay is able to complete her own self-scooting to the edge of the bed, a key milestone in restoring confidence and control.
The therapy team supported Fay’s success through a resident-centered approach that focused on empowering her as much as possible. Therapists allowed her to complete each task independently before stepping in to assist, fostering strength, problem-solving, and trust in her own abilities. They also provided education and tailored strategies to help her complete bed mobility more efficiently and comfortably.
This progress has made a significant impact on Fay’s daily life. She is now able to adjust her position and move more independently in bed, improving her comfort, safety, and overall well-being.
Fay’s journey reflects the heart of our therapy department at Browns Health & Rehab — a commitment to empowering residents, celebrating their progress, and helping them achieve a better quality of life through skilled, compassionate care.
