I was denied medical care due to medical fragility and inability to travel. May no one ever be isolated from medical care due to their physical/medical limitations.

I am honored to announce that I have been chosen from outstanding candidates as a RARE IMPACT AWARD NOMINEE from NORD - National Organization for Rare Diseases! NORD leads the way in medical advocacy and medical advancement for 30 million rare disease warriors.

They choose candidates nation wide each year who have made an impact for the rare community. The award ceremony will be in Washington DC. I am thrilled to be nominated with huge leaders for our community!! God, lead the way!! ❤️🦓

Happy Valentine's Day to all!! May you all feel love and peace today. The greatest gift of life is love. I will continue to advocate for in home medical care and physician House Calls for our community so that our loved ones can remain comfortable and with family. We can do this in Statesboro, Ga and beyond!! I have faith that a local physician will see the need and answer the call. As few as 2-3 visits per year means your loved one can stay in their home surrounded by family. ❤️

I had my house call and I am thankful for each of you who helped make this possible!

People are loosing their lives without proper medical care and caregivers.
We know our bodies.
We know our needs - far better than anyone, I assure you!

I will be more than happy to address questions given they are appropriate and will aid in awareness for those in my position. Please be patient, I am weak.

*Below is a photo of my house call P*P who drove 5 hours round trip to be at my bedside. He is using a digital stethoscope for lungs, heart and respiration - it's far easier on me than a traditional stethoscope. He is trying his best to meet me at MY need. Statesboro physicians, your fragile patients need you!!*

I am really trying. The pain, weakness and lack of proper care have just taken their toll on me. I am physically, emotionally and mentally absolutely depleted. I struggled with the help of pain control for over an hour to sit up this morning to attempt to drink my "food". With trembling and tears I managed 2 small sips.

I know this is bleak. I know my options are basically non existent. I know this could have been prevented. All of this knowledge further breaks my spirit.

The medical community needs to open their eyes, ears and hearts. Now! For those who understand my words, I am truly sorry that you do....for you, too, have been left without the care you needed.

May advocacy NEVER be needed is my new HOPE for Shannon's Hope for House Calls and Home Medical Care. ❤️❤️❤️

All to often rare disease warriors face the conundrum of needing to be in better health to seek healthcare. Have you had these thoughts :

- If only I were well enough to travel to that specialist.
- If only my needs weren't so "complex" the doctor would give me an appointment.
- If only I had more energy to explain my rare disease to a new doctor.
- If only I didn't require another person to drive me, accompany me and assist it wouldn't be so hard to schedule appointments.

What are your experiences with barriers in healthcare?
