Preeclampsia can happen FAST—and it can be dangerous! Early detection is key to preventing serious complications.
Without management, preeclampsia can lead to severe, life-threatening complications: Eclampsia: The onset of seizures. HELLP Syndrome: A severe, often fatal, breakdown of red blood cells, low platelets, and elevated liver enzymes. Placental Abruption: The placenta separates from the uterus, causing severe bleeding. Fetal issues: Restricted growth due to reduced blood flow to the placenta
Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal/infant illness, causing ~15% of preterm births in the U.S. Black women are at a 60% higher risk compared to white women.
