Georgia Southern University Sport and Exercise Psychology Graduate Program

The graduate sport psychology curriculum at Georgia Southern University is based upon the integration of theory, research, and its application in sport performance enhancement, well-being, and life skills development settings. This foundation gives students the opportunity to be well grounded in the fundamentals of the scientific process as well as experiences in supervised individual and group/team consultations. The program consists of course work in quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, individual and team interventions for sport psychology consultation, health and exercise psychology, team dynamics, and the psychological aspects of elite performance. Students may also take advantage of free electives that may include coursework in counseling, positive psychology, sport burnout, youth sport, and life skills interventions. In addition to the sport psychology practicum associated with the curriculum, all students have the opportunity to complete a research-based thesis or applied internship experience as a part of their graduate study. Applied sport and exercise psychology experiences include consultation opportunities in a multitude of sport, exercise, and performance settings, in addition to working with a variety of age-groups. Current research interests of faculty and graduate students include: youth sport participation, the provision of sport psychology services to youth athletes, coach and athlete burnout, positive psychology and optimism in sport, religion in sport, professional/ethical issues in applied sport and exercise psychology, and psychological aspects of sport injury.

Maybe we’re a little biased but they are doing a fantastic job! 😉🦅‬
