Platelets, which are tiny cell fragments that help stop bleeding and kick-start healing are a normal part of a person’s blood. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a concentrate rich in growth factors produced by centrifuging whole blood drawn from a simple blood draw.

The concentrate is injected directly into an injury site, like a torn meniscus, to stimulate and speed up the body’s natural repair process.

Zumba instructor April tore her ACL while skiing. Through her research, she found the BEAR Implant and was intrigued by how it could help her regrow rather than replace her ACL. It's been three years since her surgery in April 2022, performed by Dr. Alex Meininger of Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute in Colorado. She's back to all her favorite activities and doesn't think about her knee injury.

Why do I prefer tendon autograft for ? The science tells the story. A retrospective review of my ACL Outcomes Database revealed that my quadriceps tendon autografts measured 10.5 mm diameter compared to my hamstring grafts used previously averaging 8.0 mm diameter.

This diagram illustrates one of the key mechanical advantages: a 72.2% increase in bending resistance due to the larger graft diameter (10.5mm vs 8.0mm hamstring). In medicine, we follow the data - and the structural superiority of the quad tendon is clear.

This month marks 10 years since I transitioned from hamstring to quadriceps tendon autograft in January 2015. A decade of clinical experience and outcomes data continues to validate this decision.

When biomechanical advantage translates to clinical success, you stick with it.

I LOVE MY PATIENTS • Can you believe these cookies? Frosted with anatomically accurate knee joints? Carrie is less than 6-weeks out from knee surgery and said: “baking and making cookies helped keep me sane.”
