Happy New Year!
This was a slower year for me, which allowed me more time with my family and the ability to clean my house! 🙂 I am a rural midwife which sometimes means I am driving over 2 hours to homes. It also means I practice alone so am doing the work of many at each birth. My local hospital attended 360 births this year, so I attend roughly 6 percent of the births in my rural community.
I had the joy of traveling for the month of August this year and Kaleen the midwife covered me and brought her expertise and love to my practice. We will be seeing more of her for 2026!
I also moved my office closer to my house, which is amazing! Thank you to everyone for making the journey- for some it is closer to home and for others it is further away.
Last summer I had a 5 year anniversary party for moving here to this community. Lots of families came. It was fun and nourishing.
Some additional info on my practice this year:
23 births
12 girls
11 boys
9 repeat clients
2 first time moms
Largest: 9 lb 8oz
Smallest: 5 lb 9oz
2 Amish
1 Mennonite
Countless placentas
Many miscarriages 😞
I had 5 of my clients birth in the hospital this year and 2 of my clients transferred postpartum: one for a hemorrhage and one for respiratory issues with their baby.
Hospital transports:
1 c-section for prolonged labor
1 vaginal birth in hospital for prolonged labor
1 mom developed pre-eclampsia
1 preterm baby with genetic anomalies not compatible with life
1 breech vaginal birth at hospital in Denver
1 preterm baby, decided to come too early to be safe at home
I am very grateful for my relationship with the providers at UC Health Steamboat. All of these transports were well supported with good care for my clients.
I am looking forward to a busy 2026 with lots of beautiful births, and healthy moms and babies.
