When midwives are by women's side through pregnancy and birth, health outcomes improve & women are happier with their care. They are more likely to have:

👩🏻 Positive birth experiences
💕 More natural births
✂️ Fewer medical interventions

To improve the health of mums & babies, WHO urges countries to invest in lifesaving midwifery models of care.

Taking online classes this month at online midwifery conference. I am enjoying the material and the community. As midwives we are always learning new skills, tracking the science, and remembering ancient arts as well. It’s never a dull moment!

Yay! The long awaited batch of onesies have arrived. I know there are a handful of families who didn’t get one yet.

Please either comment or DM me so I can mail you one. It would be even better if I could hand it to you so I can say “hi” and see your beautiful babies.

Childbirth is a profound physical and emotional journey, and recovery extends far beyond the initial postpartum period. Studies and clinical observations highlight that women typically require structured time for healing at multiple levels: six months for internal healing, twelve months for physical recovery, two years for hormonal and brain restoration, and up to five years to fully reclaim a sense of identity.

Biologically, the body undergoes immense changes during pregnancy and delivery. Internal organs, muscles, and tissues require time to repair from stretching, trauma, or surgical interventions. Uterine involution, pelvic floor recovery, and cardiovascular adjustments can take months, while skeletal and muscular rehabilitation continues over a year.

Hormonal shifts following childbirth affect mood, cognition, and overall brain function. Neurotransmitters, hormone levels, and stress responses gradually stabilize, often over two years, influencing emotional regulation, memory, and mental clarity. This underscores why mental recovery is just as critical as physical healing.

Emotionally and socially, reclaiming identity can take years. The transition into parenthood, combined with changing responsibilities and sleep patterns, challenges prior routines and self-perception. Support, patience, and self-care are essential to rebuilding confidence, autonomy, and a sense of self.

Understanding these timelines is vital for families, partners, and healthcare providers. It emphasizes realistic expectations and compassionate support. Recovery is not linear and differs for every woman, but acknowledging the multifaceted nature of postpartum healing helps create environments where women can thrive.

Sometimes the body and mind need extended care to restore balance. True recovery is a journey measured in months and years, not days.
