They know it's the best time of the year and they are taking full advantage of it. Had Marie, Sean and James with me again and they didn't waste any time getting with it. Sean got his personal best trout, just shy of 26 inches. We got 7 redfish and a bunch of good trout. These guys are all about catch and release, so all but two went back including the big one. Another great day on the marsh out of Steinhatchee.

It's always an honor to be able to help people get their "firsts" . Fished with Heather and Trevor from Gainesville and neither had ever caught a redfish. Happy to say we took care of that. Conditions were beautiful but the fishing was challenging. They both laid with them and we got a few on each of the spots we hit, plus a bonus 22 inch seatrout. Great day on the marsh out of Steinhatchee !!!

Nothing in the world better than when parents trust you enough to help introduce their young son to the world of saltwater fishing. Ray, Sarah and young Beau Forbess joined me for Beau's first trip to the gulf. He was introduced to disappearing corks, rods doubling over in the rod holder and screaming drags. He caught his first shark, a stingray that was bigger than he was, multiple trout and of course the ever reliable saltwater catfish. Dad says he can't wait to go again. Awesome day !!!

Last time I fished with these two, the weather was less than stellar but we made do. Fast forward to Sunday and we got overcast, calm and a light east wind to cool things off. The tide was right so we hit the marsh early and got 13 reds from just under to mid slot. When the tide turned, I offered a trout spot I had previously scouted but a different wind and tide. They were both all in and we were rewarded with at least 2 plus strong limits and a bonus "offshore" redfish. With the exception of one gut hooked red, everything else was released to fight another day. Lots of tarpon rolling and saw 6 big flights of ducks. Definitely time in !!! Great day on the marsh with Sean and James.

Had the Bryant family on board for a cast and snorkel. We took advantage of the last part of the incoming tide and got two solid slot redfish, a fat 25 1/2 inch trout and a 20 minute romp around the flats chasing an 8 ft lemon shark. After the shark, the winds died down and the furnace came on so we hit the flats and loaded up on jumbo scallops. Another great day out of Steinhatchee.

Hotter than 3 you know whats but the forecast, tides and wind were just about perfect to hit some more creeks south of the river. Had never been to this area before but definitely a taste of Old Florida. Had some pretty good action for how hot it was.

Sean and Justin from Gainesville braved the heat with me and hit the deep flats. Plenty of trout, ladyfish and seabass made for day full of bent rods with the highlight being this giant Spanish Mackerel that crushed Sean's Paul Brown Lure. Another hot, but great day on the gulf.

Took a break and grabbed the canoe to do some social distancing. Enjoyed Chamber Of Commerce weather and the Summer Solstice. Over run with catfish but I did manage to get a couple baits passed them and secure a fresh trout dinner with a big blue crab appetizer. All in all, another great day on the marsh.

I had the pleasure of having this little dynamo Isabella on the boat as well as her mom Emily and her Grandpa Wayne. Neither Isabella or Emily had ever fished the gulf before and went from being complete novices to resident experts in a very short time. They caught trout all day as well as several other flats species all of which were firsts for them. Beautiful day on the gulf out of Steinhatchee

Last fall I had Rick and Dawn Prietz out, they were both close to retiring and the world was a pretty normal place. Fast forward and both of these essential medical personnel postponed retirement and waded right into the Covid-19 battle. All they wanted to do today was relax, bend some rods and maybe catch some dinner. Happy to say we accomplished it all. Many thanks to them for their unselfishness !!! Great day out of Steinhatchee.

You'd think that in two feet of water a three foot chop wouldn't be possible but man were the fans on high today !!! Got a few trout on the deep flats waiting for the tide to get right and then got on the grass. Had to fight the puffer fish and floating grass but closed out strong with another 26 3/4 inch gator trout and a 25 3/4 and 23 1/2 inch redfish. Closed out a half day trip strong.

Had a great day scouting new spots and bending rods with G-ville buddies Rich and Greg. East wind was cranking pretty good, but we found trout, seabass and bluefish on the flats, and a 24 3/4 inch gator trout and a mondo bonnethead shark on the grass. Great day out of Steinhatchee !!!

Had Jason and Arden out for a spectacular Steinhatchee trip. Took a while for the trout bite to turn on but when it did, they laid with em. !!! Seems that the flat have been invaded by puffer fish right now, caught about 20 of them. The Taylor County ramps are opening back up Thursday so no more 2 hour waits in line to get the boat on the trailer. Small inconvenience for such a great day.

Awesome day out of Steinhatchee with James, Sean and Marie. Got on the trout and the mondo Spanish Mackerel. Found out that the big trout had taken over one of my redfish spots and we released them all. Could not have paid for more beautiful weather.
