☎️ There is a Verizon outage in our immediate area. While our phone lines are down, our email communications and medical records systems are functioning. Please reach out via email if you need to contact us! We have been working with Verizon ALL morning to get this resolved - hopefully our phone lines will be back up within the next 24 hours!! 🤞

This brave dog showed the world that **courage, loyalty, and selflessness** aren’t limited to humans.

Through rubble, fatigue, and danger, he didn’t stop—not until every person was found.
No demands, no expectations. Just quiet, unwavering service.

Sometimes, **heroism isn’t loud**.
It’s not always in the spotlight.
It’s in the **endurance**, the quiet moments, and the sacrifices no one sees.

This dog reminds us what it truly means to give everything — not for praise, but for purpose.

We know there are many pet parents out there just trying to be good parents by keeping their fur babies on a walk schedule, but it is important to be aware of these facts as we approach summer.

We urge you to share this visual reference with your friends and family in hopes that it will protect some precious toe beans and pets from the heat!

We have seen some of the most adventurous canines who LOVE hiking and going for their walks enter our hospital with burned paws and/or worse, heat stroke.

Please, we urge pet owners to be mindful. By nature, dogs are people pleasers and they’d walk through fire for their families, but it doesn’t mean they are not just as susceptible to the heat and pain that we would experience if in their place.

We encourage you to be mindful. Early sunrise walks and AFTER sunset walks are best during these months. Please, trust us. We have seen what heat and hot pavement or hot rocks can do. Save you and your pet a trip to the ER by being proactive.

Our rabies clinic was a success and many pets were vaccinated, 182 🎊👏🏼 Thank you to everyone who came out, including our furry friends! 🐾 A HUGE thank you to Newtown Veterinary Clinic for coming out and making this happen! The shelter staff and volunteers had a great time helping our community as well! 😊 What a great day! ☀️

We had a Big day @ the Frederick County Animal Shelter! 🐈‍⬛We vaccinated 182 pets in 4 hours!🐕‍🦺 Thanks to the shelter employees & volunteers for helping us make this community event a huge success this year!!

We are having our annual rabies clinic on May 31st, 2025 from 11 a.m - 3 p.m at the shelter 🐾$13 cash only, no checks! 161 Fort Collier Rd. Wi******er, VA 22603.

If you have a previous rabies certificate, bring it with you and your pet may be eligible for a 3 year shot at the same price! 😊

Dogs MUST remain on a leash and cats are to be in a carrier 🐕🐈 We are excited to see you! 🐾
