The Church?
My grandma always held my hand early mornings straight to church. She got me connected to little children’s church.
I identified myself with friends that were like me. Church was about heaven, paradise plays, songs of praises, sweet &moelodious hymns.
Pastor Allan Kitui, I can vividly remember, he was a great vocal preacher, every time he stood up to preach, the atmosphere felt like Jesus was speaking & touching His people. I always stuck around after morning church to attend his sermons.
My grandmother’s 10 kids made an awesome chior.
Every Sunday, I watched many saints arrive at church on bicycles, some journeyed from as far as 50miles. Cars were very few.
Families were always together.
The unity of churches Sunday service was so fascinating. Choirs came from different churches, and denominations such as Baptist Church, Anglican and Assimbless of God. Indeed, the new Jerusalem, one of the songs captivated many hearts. There was no division among pastors, churches & denominations. Bad things still happened at that time, but never changed their names to be called good.
The preachings, songs & church drama, always pointed at Jesus. Love was evident in everyone’s face.
How I long & desire to keep these memories forever. The weak, the strong, poor & rich, found a place to call home. PEFA church was the name. How I miss watching the adjudicators conduct the worship songs. The ushers walking around to help mothers with babies and the elderly.
This church held hopes together. Moral & spiritual insights shaped many lives, including mine.
This was a time, when sitting arrangements was not determined by financial status. Church elders always reached out to individuals after church service, to greet, connect & build relationships.
Am just writing about my childhood church, how I long to live it again. Christmas was not just an event to feel good, eat delicious meals, road trips, new clothes & partying. The day was ingnited by Candle lights, sharing gifts & Bethlehem stories that defined the season.
Church was not about fashion, designs, & money. Preachers boasted for nothing but God. Radio and TV stations preached salvation.
Today, many have lost the power of the Cross, Salvation has been neglected.
Fame, power & wealth drive the anointing. Prophecies are classified into levels.
But there’s God. He’s watching, blessing those who still stand and worship Him in THRUTH & SPIRIT.
And to the lost, “Thus says the LORD, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls”. Jeremiah 6:16-20.
