Sergeant First Class Riley G. Stephens, a native of Tolar, Texas πΊπΈ, dedicated his life to service, leadership, and sacrifice. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1993 as an Infantryman, he served with distinction before earning his Special Forces tab and becoming an 18D Special Forces Medical Sergeant with Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne).
SFC Stephens deployed multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving five deployments to Afghanistan and caring for both his team and those around him with courage and selflessness πͺ. On September 28, 2012, at the age of 39, he was killed in action in Wardak Province, Afghanistan after sustaining wounds from enemy small-arms fire while conducting combat operations.
He was a decorated soldier, receiving numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Purple Heart, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab ποΈ. Above all, he was a husband, father of three, and a proud son of Texas whose legacy continues to inspire strength, service, and sacrifice β€οΈ.
