A stye (hordeolum) is a painful lump on the eyelid caused by a bacterial infection, typically Staphylococcus aureus.

Signs and Symptoms 🤕

1. Painful lump: A red, swollen, and tender lump on the eyelid.
2. Redness and swelling: The eyelid may become red, swollen, and inflamed.
3. Discharge: Pus or fluid may drain from the stye.
4. Tearing: Excessive tearing or watery eyes.
5. Sensitivity to light: Increased sensitivity to light.

Treatment 💞

1. Warm compresses: Apply a warm, damp washcloth to the stye several times a day.
2. Antibiotic ointments: Topical antibiotic ointments may be prescribed.
3. Good hygiene: Keep the area clean, and avoid touching or rubbing the stye.
4. Avoid makeup: Avoid using eye makeup until the stye has healed.

When to Seek Medical Attention ✍🏻

1. Severe symptoms: If the stye is severe, doesn't improve with treatment, or affects vision.
2. Recurring styes: If styes recur frequently.
3. Spreads: If the infection spreads to other parts of the face.
