AMC Entertainment and the Autism Society of America present “Avatar: The Way of Water" December 28th from 7 to 9pm at the AMC Tyson's Corner 16, 7850e Tyson's Corner Center, McLean, VA 22102.
This special opportunity is for those on the spectrum or with other disabilities to enjoy new current movies in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the "Sensory Friendly Films" program. The movie auditoriums will have their lights brighter as opposed to off, and the sound turned down.
Families will be able to bring in their own snacks, and no previews or advertisements should be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC's "Silence is Golden" policy will not be enforced, unless the safety of the audience is in question. Modifications often include:
Lower sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds
Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance
A reduction of strobe lighting and lighting focused on the audience
Guests are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance
Designated quiet areas within the theater
Space throughout the theater for standing and movement
Limited patrons at Ford’s Theatre during the day and timing of the performance
Ford’s Theatre staff trained to be inviting and accommodating to families’ needs

The Arc of Northern Virginia is offering a “Monthly Metro Trip"
When: Friday, December 2nd starting at 10am.
Where: Dunn Loring Metro station
Interested in travel training? Join the Tech for Independent Living (TFIL) team on a metro trip! On the first Friday of every month, individuals with disabilities and a designated adult are welcome to join the TFIL team on a short Metro rail trip leaving from and returning to the Dunn Loring Metro station. During this practice trip, individuals with disabilities will learn basic travel skills and will become more comfortable traveling on the Metro. SmartTrip cards will be provided.
