Toy reco: Learning Resources Smart Snacks Alpha Pops 🌈

These colorful letter popsicles are way more than cute. They’re a fantastic tool for matching, sorting, organizing and learning sound/letter correspondence. Kids practice pairing lowercase and uppercase letters as they “click” together, which makes them great for building language skills and fine motor strength.

Fun, functional and kid-approved!

Natalia, one of our bilingual OTs, shared a therapy win:

This kiddo went on a shape-tastic adventure around the playground, all while riding a scooter board on his belly! 🛴✨ He searched high and low for Melissa & Doug cupcake shapes, working on fine motor skills, visual motor coordination, shape recognition, hand strength and problem solving. Talk about learning through movement and fun! 👏

Did you go apple picking this season and have apples coming out of your ears? Even if you get them at the store, nothing says fall like homemade applesauce. 🍎

BONUS: It’s packed with sensory and developmental benefits: peeling, stirring, mashing and tasting all build fine motor skills, sequencing and sensory exploration.
Here’s our favorite simple stovetop version to make with your child:

🍎 6 apples, peeled and chopped
🍎 1/2 cup water
🍎 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
🍎 A squeeze of lemon juice

Simmer everything on low for 15-20 minutes, then mash with a fork or potato masher until smooth. Serve warm, cold or straight from the pot!

Auditory processing is how the brain makes sense of what the ears hear. It’s not about the actual hearing. It’s about what happens AFTER the sound comes in.

Kids with auditory processing challenges may have trouble following directions, remembering verbal information or picking out one voice in a noisy room.

Speech therapists use simple, structured activities to help strengthen these skills – like auditory memory games, sound discrimination and breaking multi-step directions into smaller parts.

Have you heard of Athletes Serving Athletes? It’s a wonderful organization Kelli volunteers for as a Wingman.

Wingmen are runners who volunteer their legs and hearts to help achieve an ASA athlete’s goal of participating in mainstream running events.

Sometimes the best therapy happens when we throw out the plan! Our SLP Christiana planned a pronoun activity, but her little friend made up his own rules. That led to more engagement, more natural language and more meaningful practice than expected.

Pronouns typically develop in this order:
🔵 18–24 mo: I, me, my, you
🔵 24–36 mo: he, she, we
🔵 36–48 mo: his, hers, him, her, they, us
🔵 47+ mo: myself, themselves

If pronouns are tricky beyond these ages, an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist can help.

We loved celebrating with some of our team and getting to chat with other winners at the beautiful Droumavalla Farm in Leesburg.

Thanks so much for the honors and to all who voted for us. Most of all, we so appreciate all of you who trust us to work with your wonderful families each day!
