I’ve heard many opinions as to the safety of internall ingesting essential oils. DoTerra and Dr Johnson shares the same educated opinion. Most that share the opposite opinion get their thoughts from a book written by a nurse years ago who worked in a clinic who used eo’s topically and in diffusion but never ingesting. Her book’s focus was with the usages she practiced in that clinic. She mentioned once that she recommended the first 2 models of usage but couldn’t recommend internal use because she didn’t have experience with this. Others took her words and built a usage model on her experience while leaving a negative thought on internal.
Here we have an educated practice along with safety perameters.
I use eo’s internally with ease and to great effect, however I always tell those with fears about it to just use oils in the way they are comfortable.
I posted the contents of Dr Johnson’s blog post below to make it easier for you to find.
I’ve spent 12,000+ hours researching essential oils, hold a Doctorate in Naturopathy, and am a Certified Clinical Master Aromatherapist. My deep dive into essential oil chemistry has led me to weigh the benefits vs. risks carefully, which is why I confidently teach safe internal use when appropriate.
That said, if you’re not comfortable ingesting essential oils, I respect that—just as I ask others not to force their fears onto those who make informed choices. Let’s embrace knowledge, science, and personal choice in natural health.
