The ACL is one of the primary ligaments that holds together the bones in your knee. It is one of the two ligaments that cross in the middle of the knee and connects your thighbone to your shinbone and helps stabilize your knee. If you tear or sprain your ACL, you will have poor control and instability in the knee which can lead to pain or other injuries.

Most ACL injuries happen with a non contact sport or activity. This means that there is no contact happening and your knee just twists a different way and your ACL tears. This happens when your legs are not properly trained and have weaknesses in the legs.

You do not necessarily need to get surgery if you have an ACL injury. Surgery will depend on how functional you are with the injury, if there is a complete tear of the ligament, and depends on how active you are and your goals you want to get back to doing. Typically, if you have a complete tear of your ACL, it will require surgery as well as if you are a young athlete that wants to return to playing sports or staying active.

Full recovery for most surgeries is about a year. Now, before you freak out that does not mean you won’t be able to do anything for a full year. Typically you can plan to get back into some sort of recreational activities within 9 months as long as you are diligent with your home exercise program and are serious about getting healthy and recover again.

If you have an ACL injury, just had surgery or are just having some aches and pains don’t wait to get seen until it’s too late. Come to LSTC to get seen by our highly trained physical therapists and athletic trainers today! 703-450-4300

"In January 2025, I was involved in a major car accident with five fractured bones. I had two surgeries to repair three of the fractures. When I came to Loudoun Sports Center, in June I was still using a walker. I quickly moved to using a cane and off the cane by the beginning of July. My feet, ankles and legs are stronger. My balance is stronger. I can stand for longer periods of time which is important in my career. As of the end of July giving me the opportunity to do what I love taking care of sick babies and supporting our L + D Team with catching babies." ~ Cheryl H.

$670 has been raised! Have you donated?

We are currently hosting a fundraiser called Splash the Staff, to raise money for Friends of Loudoun Mental Health!

Friends of Loudoun Mental Health is an all-volunteer, community-based, non-profit organization that helps those disabled by mental illness better their lives by providing assistance for living arrangements, advocating on their behalf for improved care and resources, and promoting recovery and community awareness.

We chose this organization because it helps community members right in our backyard. Additionally, part of living a healthy life, means taking care of ourselves mentally, so that we can take care of ourselves physically.

To donate, give us a call at 703-450-4300!

Treating the Pain in Your Feet
~~~
Have you ever hit your pinky toe off of the coffee table? Painful, right? Did you limp for a little while after so it would go away? We’ve all been there. The foot is the main part of your that holds your weight and holds you up. Because of this, seeing a Doctor of Physical Therapy for injuries to the foot is of the utmost importance to reduce the chance for additional injuries up into the ankles, knees, legs, hips, or even back.
Steve got results at LSTC! 💯💚
"I've seen a large improvement in my back pain. While I still get some flare ups that spread to my feet, these flare ups only last a day or two at most. I'm in little pain in my day to day activities. I've also been able to begin returning to running and my flare ups have been progressively less bad from those. "
