Physical Therapy for Athletes
~~~
Athletics are a key part to some individuals happiness whether it is for their own mental health or physical health. Whenever you start participating in an athletic based sport there is always an inherent risk to injury. However, if you take the proper precautions prior to or while engaging in a sport, you can significantly reduce the chances of this occurring.
For throwing athletes, there are a multitude of injuries that can occur. The most common ones we see are elbow or RTC injuries. Most athletes do not have a structured plan prior to the season starting and will go into the first day thinking that they can throw as much as they want with no repercussions. This aligns a lot with overuse injuries or tendinitis in the shoulder or elbow because of improper mechanics, and weakness or dysfunction through the supporting musculature.
For athletes that require a lot of quick change of direction or long periods of running we will see a lot of lower body injuries whether it is ankle, knee or hip issues. Some injuries that can occur are; muscular strains, achilles tendinitis, patellar tendinitis, and gluteal tendinitis. This can occur because the muscle were not properly trained in the offseason to accept the type of load that asked for it.
Physical therapy for athletes allows you to have a thorough evaluation of your; gait and running patterns, mechanics with jumping and landing, and see what loading patterns you go through. Then, we can make a personalized POC to address any dysfunctions in these areas, to strengthen the areas of weakness and help avoid the possibility of future injuries.
We can also help you rehab back into shape to get you back onto the court or field. So whether you are looking for physical therapy specifically for athletics or need help recovering from an injury, we are here to help! Give us a call at: 703-450-4300!
"Came to LSTC on recommendation of my doctor. My objective was to walk longer distances, climb stairs, get up from chairs without sharp pain in my hip and lower back. After these sessions i now feel confident, i can walk the distance i need, climb stairs without fear my right leg would give out, get up from the chair with little to no pain. Thank You!!" ~ Giuseppe M.
Arthritis is a degenerative joint condition that occurs overtime. Our joints wear down over our lifetime, and the cartilage or cushioning layer on our bones disappears. When this layer is gone your bones begin to rub other bones. What you might not realize is that knee arthritis specifically, impacts every age group.
Knee Arthritis Symptoms:
➡️Pain and swelling inside the joint
➡️Stiffness not only in the joint but also in the surrounding muscles
➡️Loss of range of motion in your knees
➡️Bending and extending your knees becomes difficult
➡️Grinding and popping in your knee joint.
Arthritis in the knee can impact just about everything in your everyday life. It makes, walking, using stairs, and sitting difficult and uncomfortable. Arthritis also makes staying in one position for a prolonged period of time painful. It stops you from engaging in the activities you love and makes doing the things you need to do, harder than it should be. Luckily, there are steps you can take so that arthritis doesn’t control your life.
Call Loudoun Sports Therapy Center TODAY at 703-450-4300 and speak with one of our clinicians about how physical therapy can help you live life pain free.
