This afternoon, Sterling Area Health Center celebrated the opening of our Au Gres-Sims School-Based Health Center!
Seeing this project to completion truly was a TEAM effort. We are grateful for the partnership we have with Au Gres-Sims School District and the crucial role they played in getting the health center open. Thank you to AGS Superintendent Chris Ming, and the AGS School Board for your dedication to this program. Thank you also to our SBHC champion in Lansing, Mike Hoadley - State Representative, who continues to support our program, and advocate for access to healthcare in our rural communities. Thank you Senator Elissa Slotkin for sending along a certificate of congratulations and for supporting our program at the federal level, and to Congressional Candidate Justin Michal for attending and supporting our SBHCs!
Thank you to Dr. Becky Britt-Dewyer for supporting this work and for welcoming our program into the community! We also have dedicated parents, school board members, and community partner agencies who sit on our Community Advisory Committee and spend countless hours reviewing the SBHC policies and procedures, and ensuring the SBHC program reflects the needs of our students.
Additionally, we have amazing support from our partners at CMU Rural Health Excellence Institute and Saginaw Valley State University who provide funding and support to our programs to ensure our students have access to additional behavioral health resources.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to our students. All the effort put into our SBHC program is for our children and to provide them with the care and resources they need to stay healthy and stay in school. We have amazing young people who sit on our Sterling Teen Advisory Committee and ensure that our programs have THEIR best interests at heart. Our youth have represented the program in Lansing and have done an incredible job advocating for and promoting the school-based health center! Thank you also to the students from the Yearbook and Wolverine Wakeup who took photos and videos for us today! We appreciate each of you!
