Sam Bauer, MD, who officially joined our team this fall, brings a unique perspective shaped by his own experience as both an athlete and a patient.

This February, one of his patients shared:

🎉 Congratulations to Devin Mattson, DPT! 🎉

We are proud to share that our physical therapist Devin Mattson, DPT has been awarded the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Clinical Instructor of the Year! This honor was made even more special because Devin was nominated by his student, Hannah, and ultimately selected for this prestigious recognition. 👏 Devin has been a clinical instructor for the past 7 years and has hosted 15 physical therapy students over that time.

Hannah shared that Devin unfailingly uses “words that heal” and demonstrates genuine, patient-centered care during every encounter. She also noted that he teaches that there is no single “correct way” to treat a patient and encourages individuality, clinical creativity, and personal expression in his patient care.

As a clinical instructor, Hannah said Devin created an environment where she could grow as a developing clinician, fostering independence, encouraging curiosity, and making it easy to ask questions freely without hesitation.

We are incredibly proud to have Devin on our team and grateful for the impact he has on both his patients and the next generation of clinicians. 💙

Today is World Lymphedema Day! 💙

We’re proud to have certified lymphedema therapist Brittany Vach as part of the team here at SPO.

Lymphedema is often misunderstood and underrecognized, yet it affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Raising awareness helps ensure earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and stronger support for those living with it.

Some common signs and symptoms of lymphedema include:
• Persistent swelling in the arm, leg, fingers, or toes
• A feeling of heaviness or tightness in the affected area
• Decreased flexibility or range of motion
• Skin changes, such as thickening or hardening
• Aching or discomfort
• Recurrent infections in the affected limb

If you notice these symptoms, early evaluation and treatment can make a big difference.

Renee shares why she loves her role as a Joint Journey Physical Therapist: “I enjoy getting to know each patient and their family and guiding them through their joint replacement journey by addressing concerns, understanding goals, and easing fears before surgery.” 💙
