"My name is Carsyn Taylor and I will be starting my second year of medical school at the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a Summer Rural Externship program where I spent two weeks at Stillwater Family Care. The purpose of the externship is to show OSU medical students what the day-to-day life of providers practicing in rural settings looks like. During my time at SFC, I had the privilege of shadowing the compassionate, knowledgeable and dedicated primary care physicians at the clinic. This experience offered a unique glimpse into the challenges and rewards of practicing medicine in a rural setting - as well as the intricacies of owning a private practice. I was able to observe a wide range of patient encounters and see firsthand how deeply providers in rural communities can impact their patients lives. One of the most impactful aspects of this externship was seeing the relationships each physician had built with their patients and how deeply their patients and their families trust them. I’m very grateful to the physicians and staff at Stillwater Family Care for welcoming me, teaching me, and inspiring me to pursue a career in rural medicine."

Hello! My name is Lainee Walker, and I recently completed my first year of medical school at the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in a rural primary care externship at Stillwater Family Care, where I gained firsthand experience in what it means to serve a rural Oklahoma community through medicine. During my time at SFC, I got to experience the day-to-day life of a physician in a private practice setting. I observed a wide variety of patient encounters and began to understand the unique challenges and rewards of rural family medicine. The physicians and staff at SFC were welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge, and it was encouraging to witness how deeply they care for and connect with their patients. The purpose of my externship is to get some experience in rural medicine so that I may choose to practice in a rural community for my own career. I am originally from Stillwater, so it was amazing to see how the people at SFC pour into the community that I know to be home! 🧡
