My chiropractic story:
Growing up, there was not a time I remember my mom not being on pain medicine for her low back pain. When I got to junior high/high school, there were several days a week I remember her just in tears, bed ridden, begging for the pain to stop. Many days she’d have to miss work or leave work early because the pain was unbearable. She would call me into her bedroom to try and work the muscles out just to give her enough relief to get her to a point to fall asleep. By this point she has exhausted all paths. She’s done X-rays, MRIs, and even back surgery consulting, but they honestly cannot truly figure out the problem. So, what do the doctors do? Continue pushing multiple opioids. Finally, her doctor signs off on her insurance so that she can get chiropractic care. She begins going to him, and just a few weeks in she begins to take less and less pills. She is not missing hardly any work. You can tell her quality of life has risen exponentially. Well about that time, she has a follow up with her primary care physician. What do you think he does? His patient is getting better, so you would think he would keep her doing what she’s doing, right? Wrong. He stops recommending chiropractic care. My mother was a single mother raising not only me, but also two of her nephews while also helping my sister get through college. This means she could no longer afford to go to the chiropractor because she was more worried about providing for her children. Just a few weeks later she’s right back to where she was. That’s when I knew I had to provide people with the POWER OF CHIROPRACTIC. I could not stand by and just let a pill. A chemical. A foreign body just mask the problem rather than actually getting to the root of the problem.
The story goes deeper than that, however. That’s because, yes, chiropractic can help relief back pain, but it goes so much deeper which I did not realize until I got to Chiropractic school. I, also, remember my mom having to have a few surgeries while I was in high school for abdominal/kidney issues. Well, when she was receiving chiropractic care and awhile after she did not have any issues with organs. Now she has not been seen consistently, she has that stress on her spinal cord again. She has began having UTIs and gallbladder issues which means more surgeries because her body cannot heal itself innately.
Chiropractic care is far deeper than just making noises and potentially helping with pain. Chiropractic is giving life back to the patient. Chiropractic is removing stress from the nervous system to allow the nervous system and the body to do what it’s meant to do: protect the body. That’s why you get a fever when your sick or that scratch go away.
What is your chiropractic story? I would love to answer any questions and hear all the stories you might have.
