Our studio community is in the middle of another postcard writing initiative. If you want to help, chat with me next time our paths cross.

You might ask, does writing postcards to representatives really change anything?

I don’t know.
By itself? Possibly not.

However, I do know doing nothing produces 0% chance of a positive outcome.

I know the mere act of writing down our feelings of dissatisfaction and our expectations is healing.

I know there is value in expressing our collective good intentions for a better world.

I know group energy directed in a defined and persistent way is unstoppable.

I know this strong-willed studio community is exactly what the universe needs right now.

And so, amongst our other initiatives, we write postcards.

Dr David Teschler and Will Ersland kick off their 4-wk Women’s Tai Chi Self Defense series with a lecture this Thursday, August 21st. This is an important lecture on safety, prevention, and the psychology of self-defense. Class is 5:30 - 7:00pm. This first class is strictly a lecture format. No physical movement practice required. All abilities welcome.

The hands-on practical movement classes are Thursday August 28th, Sept 4th, and 25th, 5:30 - 7pm. Those with mobility issues or recovering from an injury may want to talk to Dr David prior to the three movement classes.

We have room for a couple more in this session. Space is limited.

Sherry’s Intro to Tai Chi (Sept 8th to October 27th) is now FULL. If you’re interested in learning the Yang 24 Form, but didn’t make it in this session, DM or comment to get on our wait list.

It’s wonderful to welcome new tai chi enthusiasts as our tai chi community continues to grow. We also have several returning students who retake Intro to Tai Chi to go deeper in their practice.

New tai chi enthusiasts can also find Sherry at our two ongoing practices — outdoors Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Tai chi is a lifelong moving meditation. It’s meant to be practiced outdoors in large groups, which lends itself to foster lasting friendships and strong communities.☯️💟💜

Studies show a regular practice of restorative yoga, diaphragmatic breathing, and guided meditation supports gut health. If you’ve been struggling, maybe it’s time for a 1:1 yoga therapy session with Marilyn.

I don’t have to tell you, it’s a lot right now. Creating safe welcoming spaces to slow down and heal is what our studio does, especially during these times.

Yoga + Acupuncture is just one of our regular offerings of conscious relaxation. Marilyn guides us through a fully-supported restorative yoga. Then when the body’s ability to heal is heightened, I come around during an extended savasana with a few acupuncture points to treat specific health concerns.

For over 10 years, Marilyn and I have offered Y+A the 2nd Thursday of each month. It was essential and relevant in 2015, as it is right now!

The next Y+A is Thursday Sept 11th, 6:00 - 7:30pm. However if you need something before then, Marilyn’s Restorative Yoga Workshop is Sunday, August 24th, 2:00 - 3:15pm.

We’ll see you at the studio! ~Aimee

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the opening premiere of “Dear Fauna” at MCAD Auditorium in Minneapolis last night. This is an animated stop-motion short film by Fauna Rasmussen.

The film features the animals of the Paleocene epoch, highlighting mammals that went extinct because of humans. Fauna vehemently opposes human exceptionalism. She was intentional in not giving humans more air time compared to that of other mammals. What I loved most about the film is that she leaves us with hope and optimism in what would otherwise be a dark topic considering our current environmental state.

Each figure was painstakingly hand needle felted by Fauna, then detailed with clay, paper, paint, etc. Background was painted by Kraig Rasmussen. Poem was written and read by Fauna. Original music was written and composed by Ben Grim.

“Dear Fauna” will make its YouTube premiere this week.

I can’t pass up the chance to promote my good friend (and tai chi enthusiast), Kraig Rasmussen. He is showing at Raymond Avenue Gallery in St Paul, along with two other local artists. The Artist Reception is this Friday evening. Kraig also invited our studio community for an exclusive showing. His paintings will be up for two months.

The wonderful Erica Spritzer Rasmussen never disappoints. Seriously, zoom in on her green flora dress and English ivy jacket that she created!😍

What at fun evening celebrating the Rasmussens!
