Santa, Mrs. Claus and SVF bring cheer to nursing home

Saving a life can be more than emergency services such as a fire or accident, like visiting elders who are sometimes alone or lonely, especially during the holidays. Stilwell Firefighters are always glad to come to the rescue, and were just as glad to visit with the residents of the Stilwell Nursing Home recently.
Santa and Mrs. Claus also brought joy to the party.
Fire Chief Charley Coombes has been part of the visits about 10 years.
“I love going there. Some people don’t get visitors and it usually brings a smile to their faces ti get visitors,” said Coombes.
He ran into a couple who used to babysit him when he was little.
“Ray and Betty Doyle remembered me when I told them who I was. Little Charley, they called me. Once she found out who I was she was glad to see me,” Coombes said.
There was a large group of firefighters who participated in the visit.
Olivia Scott, firefighter/EMT, said it was her second visit with the group to the nursing facility.
“I love seeing how happy it makes them,” said Scott. “I love the holidays and getting to be part of my community. Young people are part of what makes the community and seniors, it’s important we take care of them and give back to them.”
Being Santa is perfect for Shawn, who loves children and elders, said Wright.
“He enjoyed bringing the joy of the holiday season to each happy face of kids of all ages,” she said. “We loved going throughout the community representing the City of Stilwell and the true Spirit of Christmas. Shawn loves kids, it’s one way he can give back by spreading happiness.”
The mayor said, “I’m happy we could end the year o a happy, positive note. We look forward to doing more great things next year.”
