Do you have lived experience with a mental health condition and want to help others on their recovery journey?

Join NAMI Georgia for our FREE Peer-to-Peer Train the Teacher virtual training! This training prepares participants to become certified NAMI Peer-to-Peer Leaders, facilitating an eight-session educational program that helps adults better understand their mental health, recovery, and build peer support.

Dates: May 16–17, 2026
Time: 9 AM – 5 PM
Application Deadline: May 1

Participants must have lived experience with a mental health condition and commit to leading a class within 3 months of training.

HB 291 – CHW Certification: This bill, sponsored by Representative Darlene Taylor, would have established a statewide certification pathway for Community Health Workers (CHWs).

CHWs are essential to improving access to care and supporting communities across Georgia because they help people navigate the health care system and connect to essential services, including mental health. Despite broad support from health systems, community organizations, and CHWs, the bill stalled in the Senate for a third consecutive year.

Representative Taylor championed the bill in the House, successfully advancing it through the House in the past two legislative sessions. We are grateful for her leadership and will continue working with partners and lawmakers to advance a sustainable pathway for this workforce. We also thank Representatives Katie Dempsey , Sharon Cooper, Karen Mathiak, Lee Hawkins, and Karen Bennett for their support in sponsoring this legislation!

Through her dedication, NAMI Georgia has grown into a strong, statewide organization—expanding access to mental health resources, serving thousands each year, and helping lead the charge for meaningful policy change across Georgia.

We are deeply grateful for her leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment to the communities we serve. As we look ahead, we do so with a strong foundation—one she helped build.
