๐Ÿ’” When the Government Shuts Down, Our Humanity Must Rise Up!โ€ ๐Ÿ’”
Lakeisha Little-Shaw

The recent government shutdown has left our most vulnerable: families, children, seniors, and those living with disabilities without access to essential food benefits overnight. For many, this means empty plates and growing worry about how to feed their loved ones.

This is the moment for us, as neighbors, leaders, and community members to come together and fill in the gap. This is what humanity looks like in action.

โœจ Hereโ€™s how weโ€™re stepping up:
๐Ÿฑ The SHAW Bar will be donating all meal preps to our most vulnerable community members (disabled/elderly).
๐Ÿฅฆ All perishable food donations will go directly to families with children.
๐Ÿ“ฆ All monetary donations will be used to purchase food boxes for families in need โ€” distributed through SHAW 4 Community, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving San Joaquin County.

Letโ€™s show what true community looks like: COMPASSION, UNITY, and ACTION.
You can call, stop by The SHAW Bar, or donate online to help us feed our neighbors in need.

โค๏ธ Together, we can make sure no one is left hungry.

Honoring Indigenous Peopleโ€™s Day | October 13, 2025

Today we pause to honor the history, resilience, and enduring strength of Indigenous communities. Their wisdom, traditions, and deep connection to the earth continue to guide us toward balance, unity, and respect for all living things.

At SHAW 4 Community, The S.H.A.W. Bar, The F.I.T. Me, 209 Hikes, and Summit Seekers Squad, we are committed to learning from, uplifting, and standing in solidarity with Indigenous voices โ€” not just today, but every day.

May we continue to walk in gratitude, honor the land we stand on, and celebrate the vibrant cultures that have shaped its story.

Today we celebrate mental health around the world, because every mind matters. At SHAW 4 Community, we know that wellness is more than physical โ€” itโ€™s mental, emotional, and social too. Through programs like 209 Hikes, Summit Seekers, Nourish the Block, and our Community Fit Camps, we are creating safe spaces where people can heal, grow, and thrive together.

Letโ€™s foster understanding, empathy, and support for one another โ€” because no one should ever feel alone on their journey.

A huge thank you to the University of the Pacific for hosting the Trail to Thrive: Su***de Prevention Awareness Hike at Yosemite National Park.

Recognizing the importance of student mental health and well-being, UOP continues to show its commitment by investing in spaces that foster healing, connection, and awareness. This powerful event gave students the opportunity to prioritize wellness in such a meaningful way.

We at SHAW 4 Community were honored to be invited to collaborate providing lunch, helping to host and lead, and offering our support for this special hike. We are grateful to stand alongside UOP in creating safe, supportive spaces where students can thrive. ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‹ What an unforgettable hike at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve! ๐Ÿ‹๐ŸŒŠ

We had such a great turnout with families, couples, and kids all coming together to enjoy the beauty of nature. The views were absolutely breathtaking โ€” we spotted whales, sea lions, and so much wildlife along the way. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Our community showed up in such a powerful way, and weโ€™re so grateful to have provided:
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Transportation
๐Ÿฅพ A pair of hiking boots
๐ŸŽ Food & wellness gifts
๐ŸŒฑ A safe space to connect and thrive

๐Ÿ’ก For 6 of our participants, this was their very first time ever visiting a State Park โ€” moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

We are deeply thankful to our sponsors, partners, and community for making this possible. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ Because of your support, we get to create safe, joyful, and inclusive spaces where wellness and nature are accessible for everyone.

Hereโ€™s to more hikes, more memories, and more impact. Together, we thrive. ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ SHAW 4 Communityโ€™s Summit Seekers Recap โ€“ A Day Full of Learning, Growing & Fun! ๐ŸŒŸ
Our last Summit Seekers session was a total hit! ๐Ÿ™Œ
We kicked off the day at Centre Plate with the amazing Patricia Miller, CEO/Founder of Centre Plates, who guided our youth through planting, w**d pulling, and vegetable picking. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฅ•
They also learned the importance of eating the rainbow with Patriciaโ€™s engaging presentation on the colors of our food and how a colorful plate fuels a healthy body. ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅฆ
From there, we headed over to The SHAW Bar, where the youth enjoyed Turkey Burgers & Veggie Burgers with sweet potato fries ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ , followed by a 30-minute basic nutrition course. Then came the highlightโ€”our hands-on Smoothie Workshop ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅฌ, where they crafted their own organic smoothies!
We wrapped up the day at The F.I.T. Me, where curiosity came alive! The youth explored gym equipment, and a few even got to try their hand (and gloves ๐ŸฅŠ) at kickboxing with the boxing dummy!
Itโ€™s safe to say the day was fun-filled, educational, and empoweringโ€”nourishing minds, bodies, and spirits!
