🩸❤️100 Units Strong — Saving Lives in DeKalb!❤️🩸
Today marks a very important milestone for DeKalb County Operations. Today, providers across the county administered the 100th unit of whole blood in the field—an achievement that highlights the dedication, training, and commitment of our teams to delivering the highest level of pre-hospital care.
AMR DeKalb County Operations officially launched the whole blood program in October of 2025 with a clear mission: to improve survival outcomes for patients suffering from traumatic injuries. This program focuses on the early administration of whole blood in the pre-hospital environment, ensuring critically injured patients receive life-saving intervention as quickly as possible. To support this mission, 15 specialized Paramedics were carefully selected and extensively trained in pre-hospital blood administration. They were deployed in Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) strategically positioned throughout the county.
Currently, the program has two blood units posted in designated areas, allowing crews to respond rapidly to high-acuity and time-sensitive calls. This strategic placement has significantly reduced time to transfusion and scene times, which is a critical factor in improving patient outcomes during severe trauma events.
This milestone represents a huge step forward for DeKalb County and its emergency medical services. Whole blood administration is one of the most impactful life-saving interventions in trauma care. Its successful implementation in the field has already made a remarkable difference for the patients we serve. Reaching the 100th unit administered is not just a number—it is a testament to teamwork, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to saving lives in our community.
Congratulations DeKalb Operations!
