Your Standard Beats Their Standard

Is 225 lbs the standard on bench?

Nah. It’s a popular number people use to measure you… but it’s not your standard.
Here’s the truth for teen athletes and 25–40+ lifters: a “standard” without context is meaningless. Different bodyweights, different training ages, different sports, different injuries, different schedules.

Comparing yourself to strangers is how you turn training into a confidence rollercoaster.
A real standard is simple:

Reps you can do with clean form
A plan you can repeat every week
Progress you can track (more reps, more control, more strength over time)
Because applause is nice… but it fades fast. You’ve got to be your own biggest cheerleader. If you showed up, trained with intent, and got 1% better, that counts.

Stone Mountain: The Bar That Humbles Strong Squatters

Why do strong squatters get humbled so fast by the Safety Squat Bar?

Because the SSB doesn’t let you “cheat” with your usual tricks.

This was my first time using it in years, and I’ll tell you straight—it felt harder than a straight bar even though the movement looks like “just another squat.”

Here’s what’s happening:

The weight sits forward, so your body has to stay more upright. That sounds nice… until your quads start screaming.

The bar tries to pull you forward, so your upper back has to stay locked the whole time or you fold.

The handles make it shoulder-friendly, but they also take away that tight “straight bar” setup some lifters rely on.
