Yesterday we had our monthly meeting of the Wheelchair Repair Advisory Council!

We are continuing to work together as advocates, legislators, legal experts, consumers, and industry experts to ensure the new law (PA 24-58) is being applied fairly, effectively, and accessibly, as well as any updates we would like to see during this legislative session.

We have also been discussing a "wheelchair user's bill of rights." I've heard from lots of folks outside the council that they would like to see more diverse voices weighing in on this other than the 1 manual chair user (cis/white/male/spinal cord injury) and 1 non-wheelchair user (cis/white/female/non-disabled) who are currently spearheading this project. Specifically, more diverse WHEELCHAIR USERS voices. So, if you're a wheelchair user in Connecticut and would like to be a part of a focus group, please reach out!

If you'd like to sit in on our next meeting, we're currently meeting strictly on zoom, so you can check out the Human Services Committee Youtube Channel live or later, here - https://bit.ly/3YwKlwz

THIS SATURDAY!

I'm stoked that I (The Farrah Garland) and Stonington Pride will be the Groton Earth Day Expo again this year!
I'll be at my table sharing about:

♿️ How climate change disproportionately impacts the disabled community, and what you can do about it
🏳️‍🌈 What Stonington Pride is up to and how we are making intentional, earth-friendly choices in our work!

I'll have loads of goodies, crafts for the kiddos (& kiddos at heart), postcards to send to your legislators, so many resources and information on how to make change, and so much more! Be sure to stop by the Groton Public Library on Saturday April 25 between 11 and 4

I wanted to thank the wonderful folks who have donated and become supporters for the work I'm doing via my BuyMeACoffee page. It means the whole world to me 🥰

Thank you Antha, Vanessa, Meg, Elaine, and Nancy! I love and appreciate you all so much.

The funds from my Buy Me A Coffee, unless otherwise specified through your membership choice, is still going towards Stonington Pride s Little Free Library, which is coming along oh so well!

Due to the aforementioned family emergency, things got slowed down a little bit, but we are still very close to it being done and ready for the public! I can't wait to share it with you.

Again, thank you all for all your support, fiscal and otherwise. You're the most beautiful community a guy could ever ask for, and I love you all so much.

Maybe it's the nerd or the cringy millennial in me, but I'm pretty excited about Stonington Pride 's Pokemon Go Community Day (all ages) meet up coming up on Saturday, May 9!

It's both a community building event, and an actual Pokémon Go Community Day event, running 2-5 through the duration of Community Day. We're meeting by the waterfall by Deviant Donuts in the Olde Mystick Village, and then taking our time exploring, catching them all, and having a blast!

The Village is pretty wheelchair and other mobility aid accessible, with plenty of places to stop and rest. Please bring a bottle of water, though there are also places to stop and purchase a snack and a drink as needed. Everyone is welcome, but kiddos need to have an adult with them.

If you'd like to attend remotely, check out our Facebook Event, drop your trainer code, and we'll make it happen!

Join Stonington Pride THIS SATURDAY at The Ditty Bag Market and Cafe for an afternoon of self-care and community connection and support.

We're making some care packages for the AFA's at the Middle and High School after all the trauma following the February BoE meeting.

Of course, you can always bring whatever craft you're working on, your fav fidget toy, a puzzle, game, or whatever brings your joy and peace. We're building community!

This is open to q***r folk and those who love them (that is to say, everyone is welcome).

We will be snagging coffee or tea from our gracious host, and spending time together just vibing as a community.

The Ditty Bag is wheelchair accessible, LGBTQ+ friendly, and has various seating options available. If you have any further questions, please let us at Stonington Pride know

I'm sorry for anyone waiting for an email back from me, for delays in posting here or on Stonington Pride , or anything else I've fallen behind on.

Aside from my usual 9,000 spinning plates, I've had a fairly substantial family emergency this month (it's okay.... just a lot to manage).
In lighter news though, I had the INCREDIBLE opportunity to have my artwork exhibited at the Disability Art Expo at the Symposium for Disability and Accessibility at Yale University!

It was a HUGE honour, and certainly something I have worked very hard for both as an artist and a disability justice activist.

Infinite thanks to my photographer Chris Zupp, my roper who isn't on Facebook, and Noah Kaeser for helping to bring this vision to life. Also, shoutout to FIP who is pictured here in my "sneak peek" photo either trying to take credit for the work (false), or insisting he is the true star of the show (true).

Thanks to my very dear friend Kelsey for coming with me to the opening, and even snagging a photo of the first time someone asked me for my autograph, and I absolutely didn't know how to respond 🥲🥰
