I shared this fundraiser on my personal & The Farrah Garland page (sorry IG folks) on my birthday. I had made the huge ask of seeing $380 going to the Transgender Law Center to honor my 38th circle around the sun.

Y'all clearly failed the whole reading comprehension bit (😝), because $443?! You're all so beautiful and wonderful and kind! Thank you so much for showing your love for me by helping to support this great organization that works so very hard to protect the civil and human rights for trans and gender nonconforming folks nationwide.

I love you all so much! Thank you for your beautiful hearts πŸ–€πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

I'm so excited that Josh Elliott is running for Governor here in CT. He will be primarying against our current Gov, Ned Lamont.

I'm personally invested in Josh for the reasons on these slides, but also so many more. And I'm going to tell you about them!

If you don't wanna read that far/are already sold & wanna know how to support:
He's up against a millionaire.
Josh is not a millionaire.
Lamont is funding his own campaign.
Josh is doing grassroots fundraising.
If you wanna chip in a few bucks, you can (ink in bio)- secure.anedot.com/josh-for-ct/farrahgarland

Ok. You can read the slides, so let me tell you about why I like Josh.
I first decided Josh was someone special when I met him at a convention. Everyone was vying for the various candidate's attention. I was wheeling around speaking to folks abt disability/access issues. Most of them gave me their card & said to shoot them an email. Fair enough.

Josh, trying to sneak in a lunch break between events told me to come over & sit with him. He listened to me intently while he ate his sandwich. We talked for a good 10 minutes. He asked me engaging questions & seemed to care so deeply about the concerns I had. He shared his thoughts, ideas, but mostly had great empathy. He gave me his time! It was a world of difference from everyone else I met.

I saw him again a yr later at a different event. I remembered him. What surprised me is that he remembered me! & asked me about my work, and the issues I had asked him about the year prior. & he still cared. & the next year he did, too. & when I have reached out to him about bills or concerns, he has always been responsive, helpful, & kind.

& it wasn't just lip service. His voting record as a State Rep backs up his values & priorities. He lives his values, & he votes his conscience. & I really respect that in a leader. No double speak. No saying one thing but doing another. & if he has to make a move that seems uncomfortable, he is very open about why. No back room deals, no hording wealth while his neighbors struggle to put food on the table. Just a genuine human trying to make the world, or at least the state, a better place for everyone. And I'm all in on that.

I'm stoked that I (The Farrah Garland) and Stonington Pride will be the Groton Earth Day Expo again this year!
I'll be at my table sharing about:

♿️ How climate change disproportionately impacts the disabled community, and what you can do about it
πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ What Stonington Pride is up to and how we are making intentional, earth-friendly choices in our work!

I'll have loads of goodies, crafts for the kiddos (& kiddos at heart), postcards to send to your legislators, so many resources and information on how to make change, and so much more! Be sure to stop by the Groton Public Library on Saturday April 25 between 11 and 4

I'm really thrilled that Stonington Pride is once again doing their Trans Day of Visibility Open Mic event in collaboration with Bank Square Books (Tuesday, March 31, 5pm).

But this year, we're doing even more!
A call for artists for a week-long visual arts display for trans artists to display their TDOV 2D, 3D, and written art (March 24-April 3) at Bank Square Books. If you'd like to display your art, please apply at https://bit.ly/sp-art-outlasts (link in bio & Stonington Pride's bio)

Writers' workshops for those who want to share original work at the open mic (for those who want to take advantage) are also in the works, so stay tuned! No pre-registration is required to share your work at the open mic :)

Every week I try and call my legislators about something I care about.

This week I called my federal legislators about my concerns about this unhinged, unconstitutional "holy war" in Iran and expressed that it obviously has to end. Jfc.

Specifically, I called and asked them to:
πŸͺ– introduce & vote on another war powers resolution to exert Congress's constitutional authority over military conflict,
πŸͺ– refuse to pass any supplemental funding for this unauthorized military action,
πŸͺ–perhaps most importantly, support articles of impeachment AND move to convict and remove Trump for his repeated defiance of the Constitution, this being only the most recent of many.

I encourage you to call your legislators and let them know how you feel about this entirely illegal war which has already killed over a thousand civilians, including a school filled with girls.

If that feels intimidating, the free app 5 Calls really helps.

This is open to q***r folk and those who love them (that is to say, everyone is welcome).

We will be snagging coffee or tea from our gracious host, and spending time together just vibing as a community.

The Ditty Bag is wheelchair accessible, LGBTQ+ friendly, and has various seating options available. If you have any further questions, please let us at Stonington Pride know

Every week I try and call my legislators about something I care about.
This week I called my federal senators and congressman to ask, beg, plead that they protect trans and gender-affirming care.

Specifically, I asked that they
πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ propose/cosponsor rights-affirming legislation to prevent the denial of legal identification like drivers licenses and passports,
πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ oppose any/all legislation/federal regulations that would limit gender-affirming care for everyone - including trans youth, adults, incarcerated folks,
πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ ensuring that all LGBTQ+ folks maintain the same rights under state and federal law as all Americans.

I also called my Governor and made it extremely clear that I deeply opposed the plan for ICE to turn industrial warehouses into detention camps, and insisted that Governor Lamont speak out against ICE's expansion, and support regulations to prevent them from buying and building these camps here in Connecticut.

I strongly urge you to call the leaders in your state and let them know how you feel about these issues. If that feels overwhelming, the free app really helps.

I promised to try and keep y'all up to date on K-12 Building Committee meetings and happenings!

Usually we have our meetings in the Stonington Police Department community room.

However, in March we will be forgoing that setup and doing walk/roll throughs of 2 of the SPS sites so the committee members can get a tangible grasp on what we're dealing with as we put together our facilities plan.
