On March 7, 2026, Stonington Volunteer Ambulance was dispatched on mutual aid to assist the Old Mystic Fire District at a devastating house fire on Lantern Hill Road. Our ambulance was requested to standby while multiple firefighters and first responders worked to control the incident.

EMS plays an integral role at emergencies like this, ensuring that medical care is immediately available if a firefighter, responder, or civilian is injured. Having EMS on scene allows crews to focus on their tasks knowing medical support is ready if needed.

We are always proud to assist our neighboring agencies and stand ready to help whenever the call comes.

Please keep the family in your thoughts as they face this difficult time in their lives. There has been a local Go Fund Me created to assist this family in need. 🙏🏻

First responders continue to assist motorists who are stuck on roads throughout Town. If possible please stay off all roads even as conditions improve to allow crews to safely clear snow.

Storm Preparation

As most residents are already aware we are expecting a significant winter storm Sunday into Monday. Conditions will deteriorate rapdily in the evening hours on Sunday and blizzard conditions can be expected during the overnight hours into Monday. Snow is expected to taper off by noon on Monday. There is the potential for our area to receive 16-22 inches of snow, wind gusts of 50-60 mph and some minor to moderate coastal flooding. Please stay off roads during this storm and plan ahead!
Curbside trash collection will be suspended Monday and will take place Tuesday, therefore trash collection will be pushed out one day for remainder of the week.
We are asking residents to have all vehicles removed from public roadways by 4pm on Sunday to allow for efficient plowing operations to continue throughout the overnight hours. Borough residents are asked to follow the snow ordinace for the Borough. This will remain in place until plowing operations have been completed.
Do not shovel or plow snow back into public streets.
Please attempt to keep fire hydrants free of snow and ice.
With heavy wet snow and the wind gusts forecasted we can expect sporadic power outages. Please plan accordingly. Clean up efforts from this type of snow event may last well into the day on Tuesday.
The Town will continue to post updates throughout the storm on its Facebook and Instagram pages. Alerts and updates will be sent out on Town App as well. If you have not yet downloaded the app please search "Town of Stonington" on the App store to download. Make sure you enable notifications in the app settings.
Thank you

Snow Storm Preparations

Good afternoon Stonington,
Just a few updates regarding the upcoming snow storm:
Snow is forecast to begin early in the day on Sunday and continue well into Monday. We can expect at least 8-14 inches with gusts to 30-35 miles per hour. Travel will be extremely difficult during portions of this storm. Please avoid driving if at all possible but if you must please slow down and give plow operators plenty of space.
Parking snow bans will be in effect. Please remove vehicles from public roadways. Vehicles left parked in the road may be ticketed and towed.
The landfill will be closed both Sunday and Monday. Curbside pick-up will not take place on Monday therefore all pick-ups will be delayed by one day. Example: Monday pick-up will take place Tuesday, Tuesday will take place Wednesday and so on.
Please stay prepared......temperatures after the storm will remain below freezing for several days. This can result in a number of issues for public utilities. Please have enough items such as food, water, medication and heating oil to last several days in the event of an emergency. Keep electronics including cell phones fully charged. Being prepared is extremely important especially during winter weather.
Additional updates will be posted throughout the weekend. Stay warm and safe!

WINTER STORM PREPAREDNESS

Good afternoon,
With the forecast indicating the potential for a significant winter storm on Sunday into Monday please take note of some simple tips to help prepare:
Please gather emergency supplies early to include food, water, medications and other essential items.
Ensure you have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts from the Town and other officials. The Town has several methods to deliver information to residents to include Facebook and Instagram Accounts, Everbridge STONINGTON ALERTS (sign up here https://www.stonington-ct.gov/home/pages/stonington-alerts and the Town of Stonington App (download the App on the App store by searching Town of Stonington or click here: https://apps.myocv.com/share/a122506379. )
Many vehicles have been left in the roadway untouched for several days since the last snow storm. Stonington Police will be placing notices on these vehicles for removal prior to the storm.
Please remember snow parking bans:
Parking shall be prohibited upon the streets of Stonington at times when two inches or more of snow has fallen until snow plowing operations are completed. Any vehicle in violation of the ban may be ticketed or towed.
In Stonington Borough, after two inches has fallen and until plowing operations are completed parking shall be prohibited on Water St and alternate sides of Main St and Elm St in the Borough of Stonington. Alternate side parking shall mean that parking is permitted on one side of the street only, such that on even-numbered days of the month vehicles may be parked on side of street with even numbered addresses and on odd days parking is allowed on side of street with odd numbered addresses.
DO NOT shovel or plow snow back into public roadways. This can impede traffic flow or cause hazardous conditions for motorists. Be patient as Department of Public Works and First Responders work to ensure the safety of everyone.
Additional updates will be forthcoming from the Town.
